I just had to tell y'all about this one. I see no reason my day-job colleague would make up such a bizarre experience
Claire was telling us all about the DJ her (THEN) husband hired for her first wedding back in 1995...may have been a friend of a friend jobbie.
The DJ was (allegedly) "quite expensive" back in the day for this area, charging about £130 then. (Using the +30% over ten years principle from latest issue for ProMobile, he "should" be charging about £170 now.....)
Anyway, this particular DJ's was sold on a "silly fun" principle. Part of the "act" was he'd dress in character costumes, perform slapstick routines during mega-mixes, and other "hilarious" things. Yes, even at weddings.
ANYWAY, she'd asked him to keep the first dance low-key as she was a very nervous young bride. Her father had also had a recent brain op, and couldn't stand loud noise - he did however agree to come to in for the first dance, on the understanding it would be quite dignified.
The DJ responded by setting off a huge glitter confetti cannon and sparklers as the couple took to the floor. It produced a huge bang and made most people shriek/slop drinks and spat so much confetti over them Clare said she couldn't see anyone around the edges of the floor. (I didn't ask her about her dad's reaction!)
To finish it all off, near the culmination of the night the DJ proceeded to stand on a chair with bum to audience and drop his trousers and undies. To Clare's horror the DJ had "congrats" in the small of his back and the groom's name written in flourescent marker on one cheek and the bride's name, likewise, on the other.
Her then husband, although not expecting it, thought it was great. We wonder why the marriage didn't last.
Now personally, I think this little bit of a USP, doing that something different to the wedding DJ pack, is just absolutely brilliantly amazing....firstly how did he write THERE so it was legible? Secondly, this DJ has guaranteed to never, never be forgotten.
So, if you guys were looking for a new idea to make your night more memorable...... have this one on me. :beer1:
