View Full Version : HD2500 40 - 120GB upgrade
I've just purchased a new 120 gb hard drive, and intend to fit it this weekend, before I start, I'd like to check with anyone who has actually done this upgrade. Firstly I intend to remove and replace the drive, then format the new drive using the DN HD2500 itself.
Q1, do I then need to reinstall the operating firmware, or is this stored within the unit itself?
Q2, Is there anything else I should do (or should not do), and is there anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance.

I did this, but a while back.
I am pretty sure that the firmware is on the unit as I really can't remember having to load it back on again, but you might be better off checking on the Denon forum to be sure.
It is quite fiddly, so take your time and be patient!

Easy job, just swap them over, 2 allen heads to take cover off, 2 screws to release hd craddle, slide out craddle, 2 screws holding hd to craddle, swap hd's and reasemble in reverse order.
use the hd2500 for formatting
job done

OK it's not fiddly at all. It's an easy job. I must be a complete idiot.

Don't you just hate it when folk load the gun, and dare you to pull the trigger? :D :D :D
Well, I've had a frustrating afternoon doing a 'simple' job, and failed miserably.
All went well up to the point of formatting the new drive, after following instructions, i.e. - util mode, select initialization mode, press parameter knob to select, then Nothing happens. I've tried reseating the drive but nothing seems to make any difference. Fortunatly the original drive still worked OK when I refited it, so at least I can still use the unit. Anyone know what the problem may be?
For info. Drive WD1200B EVE OOUYTO enhanced IDE hard drive 120gb (scorpio)
This is what I ordered
Western Digital Scorpio 120GB 8MB 2.5'' ATA/100 Hard Drive - WD1200BEVE
And this is what I received
WD1200B EVE OOUYTO enhanced IDE hard drive 120gb (scorpio)
It would appear to me I've been sent the wrong drive, but not being a computer techy type, can someone who knows what they are talking about, be kind enough to confirm this for me, so I don't end up making a fool of myself when I have words with the supplier tomorrow.
