Well what a night I have had tonight!

Tonight I had my final mixed Christmas party at my regular hotel in York. It was situated in restaurant and there was 100 guests in total.

The load into the hotel as I know is a pain in the back side. You have to go up 3 steps at the main doors, Across into the lift and then out of lift and down a corridor. Stop the trolley at the top of another 3 steps, Lift the gear down and you are faced by 2 small steps and then 10m or so to where you are going to be setting up.

Luckily it isn't a big room so I used a HK Audio Lucas 600 system which was adequate all thought I could feel the tops being pushed a little bit and had them distorting a fraction when using the mic. so I just backed everything off and it was fine.

Lighting wise I used 2 Prolight Imove5s moving heads along with a single Martin EFX500 which to be honest was abit more than enough for the room.

I started at around 9:45 with the disco and there was alot of young ones there so I played dancey remixes of Cherly Cole - Fight For This Love, Whitney Houston - Million Dollar Bill, Lady GaGa - Bad Romance etc.

The floor was full within minutes and I had a few requests for some 70's and 80's which I intended to do anyway. great crowd and they were up for it all night long and the dancefloor was rammed all the way through until the end.

A few people came up and asked for cards which is always a good sign. A nice round of applause at the end too.

I also got to try out my new Sennheiser G3 radio mic which I have to say is a very nice piece of kit and I got it at a very good price through somebody I know who has a trade account with Sennheiser.

All in all it was a good gig and I do hope to have more like that.

Nice one, Steve!

Glad to hear it went well.

Out of interest, when you have a belated Christmas party in the middle of January, do you still play any Christmas songs? I'm just curious.

Nice one Steve and a good review too. Late Christmas parties are a bit weird aren't they. The latest one I did was in the second week of february!

Rob, I'm doing a re-scheduled christmas party on 1st Feb and the lady spoke to me yesterday and said "Just one christmas song will do".

To be honest I just treat it as a normal party as it doesn't feel like Christmas at all so didn't feel it was right to play Christmas music.

Deltic: It was a pain getting into the function room but it was worth it after the good night that I had.

Thanks guys.

The reason I asked was because I know that a fair few businesses don't have their "Christmas" party until January, but I'd feel weird playing Christmas songs after the actual event.
