speaker from hell

Now where do i start with this plastic cab. In one of my cabs theres a rattling noise if you slightly bang it or when you turn it up and the music gets bassy. Now i've had it open theres nothing inside and i've tightened all the scews. the rattling sounds like its coming from the driver but its still working fine.


Also with this particular cab the tweeter has gone and also upon inspecting the crossover a leg had come of one of the capaitors but iv'e soldered that back on.

And also after a certain amount of time of use it will jusy stop working but the sub connecting through it still works fine. then it will just start working again and it can do this all night.

was wondering if anyone has any ideas to what is wrong if its just one problem causing all this or numerious ones because im thinking it might just be better to get a new pair of speakers

Other than a deformation of the driver cone, or a fault in the windings of the coil, the only things I can think of to suggest are:
Does the driver/cab have a grille on it which might be loose ?
You might have a microscopic fracture in the plastic surrounding the driver mount.
I admit to not being the most technically minded, and I'm sure someone with superior knowledge will be along soon to help you.

It might help if they knew which make/model of speaker you are referring to ?

It most certainly would help. I have no more helpful ideas than Kernow, but knowing our foe might be a step forward.

I've got some plastic peavey speakers (can't for the life of me remember what the model number is) they had a rattle when I set the cabinet down & when the bass kicked, i investigated and it turned out that the magnet had started to come loose. I just had to tighten it back up and it was fine.

sounds exactly the same as the problem with mine i'll have a look at trying that, thanks allen
