It had to happen, after slating the decade from Hell, I've now got to ask for some 1970's help - Gig I've got on Saturday and (this morning) I've been asked to throw in a 70's soul set - I didn't see that coming at all, and TBH my knowledge is limited - Surely some of you 70's Gods can give me about 40 minutes or so of solid gold 70's soul please - you never know I might even end up liking it   ;) :D

A few of my favourites :
The Chi-lites - Oh Girl (one of my favourite tracks of all time)
Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes - If You Don't Know Me By Now (particularly apt to play this after the passing of Teddy Pendergrass last week)
Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine
Barry White - I'm Gonna Love You A Little Bit More Baby
Johnny Bristol - Hang On In There Baby
The O'Jays - Now That We Found Love
The Spinners - It's A Shame (another of my firm favourites)
Jean Knight - Big Stuff
The Delfonics - Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)
Mel & Tim - Starting All Over Again (another superb track)
Carly Simon - Nobody Does It Better
It's a pity you couldn't have included the 60s too, even at the latter end of the decade... ;)

:DGood call, there are a few in there which you could class as disco or soul. I'm not one for pigeon-holing too accurately, there's no point - it's all music! :)

Should be able to extract the 70s stuff from here (http://www.forum.mobilediscodirectory.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5273) too

Cheers mate - quick one - isn't the Carly Simon just a slow Bond theme?

Cheers Rob - I did a quick flick of that thread before posting - isn't your post #50 more Disco stuff (if not which songs are the soul bad boys in there). To my uneducated eye soundtrackers post #90 looks more like it - would I be correct in that assumption?

I'm no expert in the definition of soul music, but I think soul & disco often go hand in hand.
As far as I know, soul is of black origin, just like much disco is, but I'm sure someone with a better knowledge can give more information on this.

And a lot of them are either disco or from the 60s or 80s!
I'd be asking for what their definition of '70s Soul' is ...i.e. some of their favourite tracks ... wasn't Northern Soul late 60's early 70's
... then these as mentioned would (To me), be more like what I would take to be as soul
Arthur Conley - Sweet Soul Music
Aretha Franklin - Respect
Wilson Pickett - Land Of 1000 Dances
plus of course James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Sam and Dave
