At end of weekend I might have my own residency

Hi people,
I'm right happy :)

On new years day my local pub that a mate was DJing at closed down and we all thought forever. However last Friday it reopened so as its my local I went up. I ordered a drink and the new manager said some of the customers that had already been in had recommended me.

As so many people recommended me she has hired me for Friday & Saturday to do Disco & Karaoke and if it goes well she will book me as the resident DJ :) I'm so happy and it will save me alot of space at home as they have a locker that I can keep all my equipment in so I don't have to keep paying someone to drive it up.

All I've ever wanted was my own residency at a local pub so I can chill with my mates and do what I enjoy doing which is DJ.

Hope it goes well for you. Just a word of caution, be careful how much chilling with mates you do. I lost a gig in the mid-90's for spending too much time chatting with mates. Even though the punter were happy, apparently I wasn't working hard enough!

Well when I say chilling with my mates I mean having a good ol sing song. I always managed to get everyone up singing. My favorite is when everyone sings Journey - Don't Stop Believing.

Firstly, good luck with the residency.

Secondly, with reference to the equipment being stored there...be careful. If the new manager is someone totally different and you don't already know them then make sure everything is ok. Play it by ear. The reason I say this is because about 10 years ago, a friend of mine was told that everything would be safe if he left it in the pub overnight. He started off doing one-off gigs and then it got a bit more regular so he used to leave his stuff there. The manager was a bit of a laidback bloke apparently but also a bit 'dodgy' as my mate said.

One saturday he went in and all of his stuff had mysteriously gone walkies. He wasn't insured either. He always thought something dodgy was going on and had a theory that it was an inside job. He lost the residency and couldn't prove that it was the manager (or friends of his) that took the equipment (even though it wasn't that much cop really). My mate moved away soon after that but I did hear (whether it was true or not), that the manager soon left the pub aswell....he probably took the gear with him!

I leave my stuff at my local sometimes but it is totally safe and it's the same management that have been there for the past 8 years and they are my friends aswell. Add to that...it's also locked away securely and I go back the next morning to pick it up.

Seriously....think about it and get to know the management properly before you think about leaving stuff behind. Think about what you would do if the worst came to the worst and your equipment was stolen...would you be able to replace it quickly, if at all?

Sorry guys I've been busy so not had chance to reply.

The pub is The Salutation Inn (http://www.thesalutation.org/). It is now run by actual managers from the brewry as there have been some dodgy things happening and they haven't actually recieved any money in like 12month from the old landlord so he was kicked out.

They thought I did brilliant and booked me every Friday and if business picks up will be Saturday aswel. Unfortunatly as the room is so small I can't use any stands so I've had to find places for everything. The old DJ used to use stands but it ment taking up valuble seating
