Anyone been? It looks great.......until you see the price.

I went to Hestons pub last week which is next to the Fat Duck- very nice indeed.

I've eaten at the Duck twice. Once because I wanted to, and the second time because a mate had split up with his mrs and didn't want to lose the reservation.

Obviously it goes without saying that the quality of the food, wine, service, environment and ambience are excellent (I've only had better service at Royal Hospital Road). However, for me there is one key thing missing when eating at the Fat Duck,and that's anticipation. There's absolutely nothing on the menu that sets your mouth watering.

Yes- it was lovely- Potted Shrimp, T Bone Steak, and a Sussex Pond Pudding which was Lemon Curd in a suet pudding with double cream.
Very nice indeed- and a great place- pubby but with really great food.

Chez Bruce in Wandsworth, Foliage in Kensington, and The Landau in Oxford St are also all really nice.

Nows a great time to go to nice restaurants as they are very quiet and often have great offers on- even the top end ones.

Ahhh your very lucky! ..... and yes, I know exactly what you mean. I have never tried pretty much any of the stuff on the menu...."Sounds of the sea" "Mad hatters tea" - although it doesn't get your mouth watering, it does entice you to visit the restaurant - just to see what the "sounds of the sea" dish actually is!

Is it true it was closed down due to food poisoning?

Yes- Heston Bleumenthal owns both of them.

The Fat Duck was closed last year because of suspected food poisoning- for about 4 days I think.

That's the kiddie. ;) Loved his irreverent attitude to almost everything except good food, and the enjoyment thereof.

I got his biography for Xmas, and thoroughly enjoyed it, a highly recommended read. Rather sad in places also, and definitely an eye opener. ;)

How bizarre, so did I and have just finished reading it too and I agree.

He was my favourite chef too.
