Behringer crossover problem

Hey guys,

just bought a berhinger cx2310 crossover today to use with my new subs and tops. Hooked everything up and was a rather disspointed to find that one channel of the crossover wasn't working properly:( :confused: :confused: :confused:
I think the frequency control on the particular channel must be broken as when i run a signal through it the top end sounds awful, really tinny with no mids even at the lowest crossover frequency. :bang:

The other channel sounds fantastic and i get full range through my tops when i have the frequency nob set at its lowest. I have the exact same settings on the good channel as the bad one which is why i'm stumped:(

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is?? I assume its a fault with the product but just wanted to check before i get on the phone lol

I'd check you have it set up right before you go kicking off on the phone. If it's anything like my crossover you can do two way stereo or 3 way mono. Check if you have the selector switch in stereo mode. Otherwise the second channel is only outputting top. No mid at all.

Hi, yeah its 2 way stereo or 3 way mono. I've definitely got it set to 2 way stereo, just the first channel isn't opperating in the same way as channel 2, i've tried different amps, cables and speakers but still no luck :(

are you going from your mixer with one connection - ie phonos or 2 balanced xlr cables?

the behringer crossover instructions are not very clear.


you may need to have 1 input but 2 outputs (if that makes sense) rather than 2 inputs and 2 outputs to get it to work properly - sounds daft but i run 4 way mono through 1 input - when i tried it with 2 inputs i had the same problem as you described.

I'd bet that you have it set up wrong rather than you have a faulty unit.

They are very, very reliable.

If you give us a full rundown of how its connected and what you have switched to what, we can help further.

yeah i probably was rushing to conclusions. Heres how i've got it set up:

I've got balanced xlr from my mixer going into the 2 inputs on the unit, then i've gone from the xlr connection marked low into one side of my sub amp and then the other xlr connection marked low into the other side of my sub amp.

Then gone from the xlr output marked hi into one side of my top amp, and the other output marked high into the other side of my top amp. Then just connected the speakers up as normally.

I tried just going from the good channel of the crossover into the amps as mono and that worked fine, just obviously didn't get the stereo sound.

There's a little switch on the back marked something like "1x / 10x" which controls the freq dial on the front, my guess is you've got it set to 10x, which means the dial is controlling the crossover point between 500Hz - 4,000Hz instead of 50Hz - 400Hz (guessing the exact ranges).

Yeah there is a little switch for each channel which says 1x or 10x. Both channels sound exactly the same when on 10x, very high frequency, but when i set it back to 1x, channel 2 sounds how i want it to, whereas channel 1 doesnt, it sounds somewhere inbetween 1x and 10x for some reason. I get no mids or lows even when its set at the lowest position on the frequency dial thing, i only get the high frequencys. :confused:

I havent personally used a crossover before, i assumed each channel would just duplicate eachother :(

I have just bought a xlr splitter cable so i can use one of the low outputs going into both my amp channels allowing me to have control on both sides, i think i still might have a problem though with it being stereo and i want to run the bins in mono, i did hear that i might be able to either just run my amp in bridge mode mono or run a xlr into side 1 of the amp and come out of that side and put the other end into side 2, this apparently makes the amp think it is running in mono for the bins.
I emailed berhinger about this problem and asked them to send me a diagram to make sure i was setting everything up correctly buy they wernt much help.

With many modern amps, that's not necessary. Just run a feed into the laft hand channel, and there may be a switch on the back, Dual( stereo)Mono, Bridge. Set it to mono, and the input of the left channel is fed to both. No other cables needed.

I am using Two class d cd15 p 45 hz - 20khz & two class d cd15 bass bins 40-250 hz, im old school and never bothered about fancy gadgets before untill now ha ha.

It's a "suck it and see" scenario. Start at around 150, and see what sounds best to you.With the tops you have ( same as mine ) they will take evrything cheerfully anyway, so no risk of damage.

One further point. Each bit of the crossover has a gain control on, so when you've got the frequencies set right, you will find you can tweak the sound by these controls. That's how I run my ( non Behringer, but very similar )crossover.

The manual says there's a mute button on the low side. Have you got this pressed in? It would fit with no sub, but all full range when you turn the frequency down.
