As some of you know my dads been made redunat from work. and were both going to make a good go of the business..

so i have a few questions

I'm planing on having a more versatile Rig. at the minute i take all my equipment to every gig apart from a laser..

I don't have much backup i do have mic, mixer and laptop....

I want to be able to have small, medium and large rigs.

For small rig I want booth with over head, small pair of speakers (with my hidden subs) 1 martin efx 500, and some kind of wash..

so my 1st questions is dose anyone know any small speakers around 8" and above 150w. but me and Paul was talking about wash and we was wondering what people preferred. led panel or par can, I think panels are to bright to look at...

then I want a medium rig. I would use booth, 1 efx500 with wash and 2 imove5s. using either the small speakers with subs or my prs15a.

then for large I would use booth, 2 efx500s, wash and 2 imove 5 with laser or mirror balls. using my prs15a with subs.

But I have had some one ring me for a 18th asking for a large sound system and i explained what I had, he told me that he didn't care that it would be loud enough.. just if it looked loud :confused:.

I know there not the best speakers but i though could be alright for backup and for idiots like that lad. but i thought i could also use these at the summer fayre i do ever year...

I have re-read this post and it doesnt make much sense but that me lol,

so basically.

Dose any know of any power full small speakers around 8" and £200.00 max.

What Wash Effect suits you better? par can, panel or other?

and what would you Recon to the rigs?

I have a LD Systems Dave 15+ system aswell as a HK Audio Lucas 600 system. Both of these have 8" Satellite speakers.

I reckon a pair of 8" tops with a pair of 15" bass bins would be more than adequate for most functions as you are only putting mid and high through them and not bass.

Can thes tops be purchased with out the sub? as im in no hurry to get rid of these.. and IMHO they are fantastic.

You want numerous setup options, I can understand that. But don't start buying crap. Soundlab floor standers? Thats a backwards move for anyone!


This is the way I see it:

You have a big rig now (in relative terms).

This is good for 18ths and big rooms where thats the kind of rig that the customer will expect.

It sounds like you want a smaller rig for use at more discreet venues, such as classy weddings, where a full deckstand and massive speakers would look a bit out of place (in some peoples eyes).

If so, all you need to do is use one T bar with a single wizard on it. Two or four LED pars behind you, and some small sexy speakers on show like the (8" Daps I mentioned to you. If you loose the overhead and use a wrap around curtain rather than the front drape kit, then you will be suprised how much your rig shrinks.

And all for £100. Heres a pic of a fellow DJ's rig in a very nice country hall. No lighting at all!


One wizaerd would have worked a treat but the client wanted no lighting. Those are the 8" Daps and you can see the size of the room. It was full too.

Doesnt matter how big they look its what they sound like never compromise sound quality you can fill a medium size venue with a couple of decent lights couple that with some decent quality sound and your laughing.
On the other hand you can have half a dozen lights and cheap and chearfull sound system and you could be crying because it sounds rubbish and thats what your clients will remember you for not your fancy lighting.

I have enough sound and lighting to cover most venues.. what i am saying is. I want to be able to cater for small rooms as well. i have had troble setting up on my last few no were to put speakers etc.. so thats why i want a small pair.

and for the large looking one, they would be used ith my w-audio (mainly for the look) as i say i have been asked for large cabs befor (not just once) and also i need and extra sound at the summer fayer.. just out of intrested what sort of sound system would you use... bare in mind i only need a little bit more than my 400w rms w-audios and 600w rms bins.

buy 2 active subs: - if you like W-audio they do them, but theyre quite expensive.

buy 2 PSR8As.


that way youll have 4 set ups:


PSR8As on their own for background music

PSR8As plus SUBS for largish venues

PSR15As for medium venues

PSR15As plus SUBS for large venues

and no extra amps or pre wired set ups required.

using 8" or 10" tops is fine with subs probably preferable, just have a think first about if it will change your set up in any way - ie will you need a crossover or do you subs have internal ones? do you need extra/different cables etc if you get active or passive tops?

Those subs do look interesting. Down to 50hz from a 10". I wonder how quiet that will be. lol.

I have a pair of the PSR-8s and I personally don't think they'd be man enough, even if you were running them with subs.

I keep meaning to try running the PSR8's with my JRX118S subs through an active crossover to see if they can keep up ;) Personally, I doubt it as well, but there are plenty of packages out there with a 15" or 18" sub and a pair of 8" satellites with roughly the same ratings so it ought to be ok to some extent.

You'd obviously not get the same output as you would with a pair of 18" subs and 15" tops :D
