Less likely though. I am still sat wondering how the :Censored: to get what is one of the best rigs and shows in the north west on the road more often. Last Fridays 30th - bottle of wine and another hand written thank you card (we get so many of them) delivered a few days later.

And another repeat customer going forward.

I don't do hard sell, so I am still losing jobs to being undercut and from those that oversell and underdeliver.

I know the wedding I am doing in April is from an engagement party I didn't get. Why did I get the wedding? - as they moaned about how crap their DJ was at the engagement do to someone who's wedding we had done. I wasn't competing for the work from there in we were just booked.

Quality will show through and you have to believe in yourself. I am not going to change my policy to get in a bun fight. I am just going to keep believing we are the best and knocking spots off the events we do. You can't win them all and Rome wasn't built in a day, etc, etc.

I am personally a negative thinker in a different way. I find all the negatives, understand them and then find a way to negate them, rather than focus on them, to produce a positive outcome.

I'm sorry if I come over that way, because I don't see myself as a negative thinker at all, just a realistic one.

It's right that until recently, I underestimated myself, but thanks to people often telling me that, as well as more & more unexpected positive feedback from clients, that's finally changed over the last few years.

Personally, I prefer people who underestimate themselves to those with an inflated opinion of themselves anyday!

Take your Platinum service and put it on a shelf(Your high spec equipment...cabaret singer....big light show disco).Charge what you like for that.....

For the other 26 days in the month when its not in service think about what you can do with it.Possibly in a scaled down version...at a reduced rate.Maybe a Quiz Residency,Kids Party or a Social Evening.This is by far the best form of advertising.How about Karaoke??

Invest in your skills....80% of the British Public still shy away from a microphone....using it to you is second nature.Your Music Knowledge will far outstrip the man in the street ...use that to your advantage.

When I first started discos, believe it or not I was a very shy & quiet person. Apart from that, I certainly did NOT believe in myself, as we had basic equipment including home made speakers, and because I had no experience of mobile discos & therefore was very nervous & didn't really know what I was doing.

At one of the first few discos we ever did, another DJ who was working in a different room at the venue came over to chat to me, and told me that he was always looking for DJs details, as he supplied the DJs for a local pub which had music every night. He asked for my details & said he might be in touch.

I thought there was no way in a million years that he'd ever call me, but he did...a few days later. Within a week, I'd had a trial at the pub in question & been given a weekly residency. Several years later, I was offered & accepted a second night each week, and several years after that a third. These residencies lasted for 9 years (when the pub was sold) and earned me a fortune as well as loads of experience...and this all happened at a time when I did NOT believe in myself.

Oh I get my feet wet, but I pick and choose where. I know the work I want so get involved in stuff that I think will lead to it. Also I only have 8 days a month to play with round my day job.

Don't want quiz work (Its mid week, I work and have a family) or Karaoke (my personal idea of hell) or pubs (Not my bag at all). I have my big shiney rig and its my toy. I don't need the other work, its about getting out on the jobs I want and getting into them -It is getting there, but I have done that thread before.

Good Party - no feedback yet. Think I have been undercut again! Such is life, but I don't need the money so bad as to underprice the service. Oh agreed. We did a job for a care in the community birthday party of downs syndrome people and other special needs cases. Never done so much mic work and joining in ever. It was a real cheap job on a Sunday too (I don't do Sundays by the way - unless it is giving something back).

What I don't do is a full on job for someone who just thought they could get it cheaper somewhere else - even when the cheaper option was comparing chalk and cheese.

Perfect case being this thread. Where most have been happy to accept what Darren said without analyzing it, or just not commenting, your posts have more or less all been negative / pessimistic. Or your rig thread, where you state you expected more negative comments, & then moan when you've had hardly any

I'm sorry if people think the way I post is sometimes negative, but I believe it's better to always post what I think, regardless of whether it's positive OR negative rather than only posting positive stuff & holding back on the negative stuff. To me, that's unrealistic & counter productive. That's just the way I am.

On the subject of posting negative stuff, I can think of a fair few people that only comment on my posts or my business when they DO have something negative to say. If they agree with me about something or think I'm doing well with something, they'd rather be seen dead than post on here saying so!

I was actually trying very hard to get Darren to tell us what he was referring to. Then, we could all discuss whatever it was & might be able to learn & improve as a result. I'd say my efforts to try & achieve that were POSITIVE.

My reason for moaning was because I wanted (and expected) lots of feedback (most of which I knew would be negative), and some people are usually quick to have a go, but for some reason many of them chose not to respond to that thread, resulting in what was for me a disappointingly low level of feedback compared to what I was expecting.

I was hoping that my moaning would encourage more of them to break their silence & give their feedback.
