winch standss refurb

So i am looking to refurb my winch stands with a new coat of black paint as they starting to look a little rubbish and old

would like to replace these but cost is too much at min so paint it is

what paint would you use on these and they have to be matt black

I'm not sure about Matt Black, but I'd be inclined to use "Smoothrite" or equivalent. That's Hammerite, but a smooth finish.

Hammerite would be my opinion they do a smooth black. Make sure to score the surface of the old paint with glass paper to get a good finish.
You can use Japlack paint or plasticote but I prefer the Hammerite myself.

Just as a different option: a quick search on google for a matt black paint suitable for metal keeps coming up with International Matt Black Paint (http://www.choiceful.com/choiceful-id-5771-International-Matt-Black-Paint-250ml.html)

Yeah, but there may also be an own brand product cheaper. Sometimes loads cheaper, sometimes merely pennies.

Drying times, don't know, but one tip I was given: If applying two coats, put the second one on while the first one is still slightly tacky. As the paint dries, it shrinks a little, so if you let the first coat dry fully before applying the second one, then as the second one dries, it will crack the one below. If applied as suggested, they'll shrink together.

i'd use wet n dry paper first,

then several coats of primer..

Well update on the the refurb,

One stand is now completley stripped down into pieces and the main tubings and arms are now in primer grey (How Fashionable)

Been and purchased the Hammertie

Hope they will look good when finished.

They already look tidyer in primer so its looking promising
