invoice number increments

Sorry if this is on the wrong section.

I have a template for invoices using excel ( 2007) , the date of the invoice changes automatically using the =TODAY() function.
is there a way to do the same with the invoice number , so that each time I load the document the invoice number increases by 1

Not that I know of.
Can you not just incorporate the date into the invoice number and add a 1 at the start/end?
