Laser Power

Hi all,

I've recently bought a laser, and need a little advice regarding putting it on standby. I use CA-8s for all my lighting (Dynamos, Dynarocks & Magic Gobos) but can't use one on either my nebula or my new zodiac. I have created a wiring loom which is powered by two 4 way IEC connection blocks, which works well as I can put the lights on standby with the CA-8s and the nebula is left on all night, so no issues there.

One thing I need to sort out is how to turn the Zodiac on and off efficiently, any ideas? There's the simple way of plugging and unplugging it, but I was thinking something along the lines of incorporating a switch into the lighting loom?

The other option I had thought of was to re-wire my truss, and buy one of these. (http://www.djanddiscostuff.com/prodpage.asp?prodid=1925) However, at some points there will be more than 8 sockets required which would mean putting two lights on one IEC output. As the channels are rated at 5amps each, would it be safe to run something like 2 100w Dynamo's off one IEC output?

Also, has anyone had any good or bad experiences with the product I linked to?

I have one of them and very good. I wouldn't double up on an IEC connector - not a good idea in my book.

I cant find the website now but basically I have one of these fixed to my overhead bar http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=340785 The only difference is, my power supply comes with a remote control so I can turn say "Socket one on" whilst the rest are off...etc. It looks really cool too..I walk around the venue changing the lights.

but yeah sorry to go off topic ollie but that unit Ive used to two years and its great can flick any lights on or off at a flick of a switch which also means you can have just one plug for all your lighting

Naturally I keep lighting on a different socket where possible to the sound

Well I vote for the one Ollie linked to. I've got one, and it's ace. With 5A per channel, you could run four 250w scanners off one channel comfortably.

I replaced the key switch on the rear of my laser for a standard on off switch. I kept losing the keys and then managed to break the lock so at the time is was needed but it turned out really handy.

Darren, yes there is a key - but it's a bit impractical to keep having to turn it on & off via a key switch for little sections in songs.

The reason I linked to the one I did (which Peter approves of) was because I thought it would offer a really simple solution.

So, I wondered if it would be SAFE to have 2x 100w scanners on one IEC? Sorry for a thick question, but I didn't want to buy it to find out that it could be dangerous! Also - have the users of this product had any issues with 'popping' through their PA?

Ollie mate, as I said you can have four 250w scanners on one channel if you want, no probs. IEC connectors are rated above 5amps.

And you don't get popping through the PA, because it uses low voltage switching in the panel to trigger relays in the overhead.

Yeah, personal preference though. I use mine as an impact light, turn the rest of them off and have the laser scanning.
