First thing to do is list yourself on google maps and you will appear on the first page on a search for 'mobile disco nottingham', try googling it and see,

Just had a call from the company whereby I'm given five search phrases which guarantee me a spot on the first page of google.

The initial fee is £99 for the first month - I'm then given a report back with the most successful phrases. I'm then given the option of keeping all or just one of them on. It then works out at £19 a month per phrase. No contract or ties.

Opinions?

So how does this work then---there are x amount of places on the first page.

If this company sells to x+1 or more Discos in your area its committing fraud.

Sounds like a load of cobblers to me:eek:

The last person who tried to sell me this hadnt noticed I WAS on page one--dummy:bang:

Make sure you get that guarantee in writing--what is the guarantee -one minute, one day, one month, one year?????

Remember im the guy that stays on page 1 all the time without any help at all;) ;) ;) ;)

Ask them if they are just touting Pay Per Click - anyone can guarantee you first page on Google if using adwords. For £45 per month I'll guarantee you first page on Google for 3 keywords, easily.

All I need to do is start an adwords campaign with 3 keywords at £1.50 per click each, and a budget of £1.50 a day. One will get clicked, every day, and then won't show until the next day. This'll cost you £45 for the month and you'll have been on the first page of Google at least once every day for your chosen keywords. See how easy it is for me to make such a claim?

Charlie - the only real text on your home page is "Click here to continue" - no mention of mobile, disco or Nottingham, so it's hardly suprising you're not in the SERPs for these terms. Lose the flash intro, and put your energy into optimising your page content rather than perfecting a huge list of meta keywords, which Google don't even read.

Charlie...

You might want to look at a system called Joomla.... It's very very easy to use and can be optimised for SEO. --- Best of all, it's free!!

I've recently learnt that while google will look at the CONTENT in your site and usually ignore the Meta Keywords, they will also look at the following :

PAGE TITLE
PAGE DESCRIPTION

When competing with other sites, google will decide whether the keywords the user has typed in appear enough in your TITLE, DESCRIPT and CONTENT.

If they appear too much or too little, google will LOWER your ranking. It's tricky getting the right amount.
As most people have said, these companies that "guarantee" you a spot on the front, usually use adword campaigns.

My childrens entertainer, before I started managing him and his company, was paying out upto £500 a month for "google listings". If they think they can get away with it, they will scam you!!

There is another tip that most people don't use or know... and thats have multiple listings on google maps.
Cover WIDE and SPECIFIC points in your local area

Not sure if I can PM you on here, so I'll send you an email from your site as I have a few other tips for you :)

Ahhh but angela, you'll be suprised at how many people actually do it.....

I was researching my local area and surround areas.... There is one guy who has just over 50 listings in one county.

Techinically, it is against the rules... yes I will agree with you :)
But, to get your name out there, I say it's worth the risk hehehe

May I suggest on your home page removing the telephone number from your feedback ;)

Also put your website through a spelling and grammar checker.

If I was a potential client and clicked on your website, bad spelling and grammar would make me think twice already!

If you're serious about your business and using the web as a primary advertising mechanism, NEVER risk upsetting the almighty G.

Once they bump you, it's a long hard road back again.

Pay special attention to the rules. Sure, there's always folks around willing to exploit them, but once they're rumbled...

Completely agree! LOL ..... Completely! :)

The method I proposed is called Black Hat SEO.... BMW actually got removed from googles listings because they used Black Hat.

To be honest, using the CONTENT + (DESCRIPTION + PAGE TITLE) = RESULTS formula would be the best option to stay within the safe zone.

My advice - don't do the multiple listings in Google Maps. Just because others do it and appear to get away with it, doesn't mean it's a good idea. Google aren't stupid, they'll cotton on to it sooner or later and when they do all these will disappear. There's already a lot of moaning about Google maps, multiple listings and Google not doing anything about fake reviews etc....they'll get around to tidying it up!

As others have mentioned get yourself a proper hosting account with full FTP access, then either try making your own site from scratch with free software (for example Nvu (http://net2.com/nvu/)), or try a CMS like Joomla (http://www.joomla.org/), Wordpress (http://wordpress.org/) or CMSMS (http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/). Most hosting packages *cough* come with one click installation of the first two CMSs I mentioned, plus more.

If you want a free hosting account to try out your options get in touch. But you'll need a spare domain to use, and it wouldn't stay free if you decide to keep it (although I'd help you move it if you didn't) ;)

Ohhh, quick tale before I go to my exam.

I called the agency yesterday, posing as a husband to be. She gave me all the info, wouldn't let me have a star cloth because it looks tacky - they prefer their logo frontage...and it came to £200, "but please bare in mind sir, this price will go up if we have to pay for the car park." "You must make sure that the best man comes up to the DJ every 20 minutes to make sure there is no damage to his gear and he is fed and watered or his energy levels may drop." :p

Anyhow, the funny side to it is - they've called back twice after (I haven't pick up) and I've just realised my answer message is - "Hello & thank you for call Charlie Brown's Entertainment. Please leave message and we'll endeavour to return your call in the hour...etc" They've left two messages and still not clocked!
