I had just finished setting up last night for a karaoke evening (7:30) , when the mobile rings.
its was a gentleman from another local club , he was frantic , the DJ for the event had not turned up , no phone calls , nothing :Censored: ,He asked if I was doing anything , could I help.
I explained that at 7:30 in the evening the chances of getting a DJ were almost nil , I then asked who had let him down.
wait for it.................
It was a friend of a friend that had promised to do it for £30  .
I was half inclined to say " what did you expect !!"" , but I refrained :D
Sorry , but it beggars belief.

Might be worth posting that story on your website--we always mention a similar story when sending people quotes.

I had a call Wednesday night, a student netball team had organised a fund-raiser, and the DJ had failed to show. I asked about the timings - 7.00pm until 1.30am, I was told, how much were you paying? £50 I was told. Needless to say I stayed in and watched the footie!

I agree , but how do you educate the masses , one let down , tarnishes the industry , its all to easy to paint everyone the same colour , as far as I know , everyone on here ( and MDJF) conduct themselves in a professional manner , but how many DJ`s are there all together , its an uphill struggle , but maybe..............just maybe.

I know a good website you could point them at... which would
a) get them off the phone to you
and
b) REALLY rub it in! :p

Well if you read my wording below you will notice the connection between the words UNRELIABLE and CHEAP AMATEURS -no one on here charges the sort of pathetic prices which have been mentioned --I hope:eek:
Paragraph one is used when we get the people who say they want it as cheap as possible
The reason you have received an immediate response is because we are full time Professionals providing a first class service to our clients, not a bunch of part time unreliable cheap amateurs many of whom you may come across during your search for a Caller.
When considering our quote please be aware we are receiving a disturbing number of calls from distressed customers who have been let down badly just before their special event by cheap Callers---not allowing time to find a replacement---the last one we received was at 5pm on the night of the event---giving no chance of getting anyone else.

If some people had more common sense, they'd understand that the less money a disco charges, the less chance there is of them turning up.

We discussed this the other night and can you actually prove this ???
Same as all 'cheap' DJ's, can you actually prove they are more unreliable ?? I know of a large national company who have dreadful customer service skills, and of some large agencies who do charge good fees, yet have still let people down.

I can't prove it, and there will always be exceptions to the rule, but common sense suggests that in most cases a disco that charges £30 would be less likely to turn up than one who charge £430.
That's because they are less likely to have any kind of back up in case something happens & they're unable to fulfill the booking...because they're less likely to care.

Yes, even a semi pro would charge more than that for the entire evening.

Indeed, or Mate's rates :p
