We bought a load of mic stands (cheap pulse ones from CPC, but with a nice heavy round base) and use the stand bases for ours. Works a treat!

No, it was the full size mic stands. We got a very good deal on them (they were on sale at the time and we were buying quite a few of them, obviously)

I think they were these (http://cpc.farnell.com/pulse/pls00055/microphone-stand-round-base-black/dp/ST01615?Ntt=st01615) ones, but, as I said, they were quite nicely reduced at the time!

Do you need them quickly? Do you get CPC catalogues? Reason I ask, they send out LOADS of paper catalogues with various things at special prices, but if you go to the website and search, you'll often only find the full price item. You'll only get the special offer price if you use the product code from the catalogue.

If you're not in a hurry, it might be worth waiting a little while to see if the mic stands come up in one of the special offer catalogues again in the near future.

I use these:
http://www.thomann.de/gb/adam_hall_bodenmontageplatte_fuer_pars.htm

Very light but also virtually unbreakable and you can hide (a certain amount of) excess dmx cable underneath ;)

Cheap as chips too.

£8 a go isnt really cheap if you have a lot of heads.

What about a square of plywood painted a colour of your choice with a hole through the middle?

Yup - mine are white but the concept is the same, and more importantly so is the price (actually probably a bit less as I blagged the wood off a neighbour).

Anyway, think they do the job and unlike some home made kit they dont look out of place at a gig.

And my White stands are "Wedding Stands" which means I can charge twice as much for hiring them out.

No, but setting them up at weddings supposedly involves a lot more time & preparation than at non-weddings!

Thats the clever bit- no one knows how many of them there are to start with, so it's impossible to say whether theres 50% more or not.

As it happens, I dont have too many uplighters so it's pretty much all or nothing for me on this, otherwise I'd be better using a few torches with gels on them.

Now there's a good idea.

I might give that a go!
