Im looking for a cheapish radio mic and could do with a hand guys.
Ive had radio mics which took 9v PP3 batteries before, but theyve never had a cradle to hold them and have always been held by the contacts. The issue ive found with them is that once the mic's been around for a bit, the contacts become loose and occasinally break away mid-use, causing a power (and audio) drop out.
I love my KAM dual rackmounts because they use 2x AA batteries in a cradle, so this problem can/has never happened.
So, does anyone know of a cheap, single unit, radio mic that holds the batteries in a cradle. I dont mind 9v as long as the cradle holds it secure.

How cheap is cheap?
I use the Shure SM58 Beta wireless mic, which is around £400 new...

Less than £100. Its purely a backup microphone for a quiz night im getting a guy to run for me.
I have the SM58 wireless too, but dont fancy letting him loose with it. :)

I use the same wireless microphone, but I am sure it can be had for a lot less than £400. In terms of quality it does the job and reduced the feed back I was getting from a cheaper imitation.

In all fairness Paul, i have the KAM dual rackmounts for passing out to drunk people, and other than a dip in sound quality, ive never had a problem with them. Ive never had feedback or anything, but i dont fancy spending any decent amount of money, essentially for a job wihich im just supplying the equipment too.

The Sennheiser Freeport (http://www.dv247.com/microphones/sennheiser-freeport-vocal-set-handheld-wireless-microphone-system--28312)is good value for the money (£129) - I've got one which I let customers use for speeches and whatnot, and it's seen loads of abuse and I've never had a problem with it. It uses the PP3 9V batteries you don't like, but it sits in a nice little cradle just below the mic head and doesn't rely on its contacts to remain in place.

The Freepor has always received good reviews.
For quizzes, I would try out a wireless headset microphone but quality units don't come cheap.
I have come across this little package, though:

I bought a Gemini one for about £90 for back up and have found it to be very good and reliable. It uses 2 AA batteries.
Freeport here too. Been using it for a couple of years and it is fine and has a good range. feedsback a little bit more than my trusty Shure PG58 wired but as long as you are a reasonable distance from the speakers it is fine (and that's the point of wireless isn't it)

+1 for the Sennheiser Freeport... excellent value for money and a credible brand name.
