Ive currently upgraded my sound system and now wanting to upgrade my lighting.
I use a rhino 4ft stand goalpost design. I currently use in this order left to right - Vasto, Acme Exercet, Acme Tango, Vasto
I do own a strobe but dont use this and also have a smoke machine which doesnt get used.
I started out with the above lights and theyhave done me well for a few years but now want to upgrade.
Bearing in mind i have a very small budget (£300 max) im wondering where to go next.
Im looking maybe at selling what i got (maybe keep the tango) and getting a couple of njd datamoons linked with controller to replace the vastos and getting rid of the exercet?
Or maybe a set of 4 scanners on the bar?
Ideas please?

I think something like Datamoons would be good, or the Mystic LED if you're looking to go LED.
A pair of Datamoons with a case & controller from DJKIT is £290.99, right towards the top end of your budget. Whereas a pair of Mystic LEDs from PhaseOne is £175, but doesn't include cases or a controller (UC-3).
If you were to buy the mystics at £175 inc a controller for £25, you're left with £100 to play with.
----------------------------------------------------------
Alternatively, a cheaper alternative to the Datamoons are the Acme Magic Gobos (I use a pair, myself) which are 100w, DMX, bright and can be used with a CA-8. For a pair inc. DMX cables & Ca-8 is £160 from Phase One. So then you'd have £140 to play with.
Sorry for such a long winded message, but by buying a cheaper alternative, which is still bright and a good quality then you'll have a fair chunk of your budget left for other lighting.

For brand new, yes I think it's a good deal. However - you would only be left with £80. If this isn't a problem then i'd say go for it.

Yeah the datamoons are a pretty widely used effect and have good reviews. Also they can be dmx'd so if you decide to take the dmx route later they are ready for it.

target audience is a variety from 18th birthday parties to weddings.
Thanks for the suggestions so far but im thinking wont it be better to go for datamoons and then i can upgrade to dmx later as njd datamoons are dmx compatible?
Has anyone got a vid of a pair of dynamos or dynarocks? Also a vid of a pair of datamoons would be great too so i can compare.

The pair of dynamos look good, im guessing would be even better with 4 however it looks like smoke is used in the vid so how would they look without smoke as a majority of the local venues dont allow it.
Also are the dynamos bright enough?

I use 4 dynamos and they're very bright. I've never had a problem with them not being bright enough. Without smoke, I don't even bother using them though, as they're too fast to be that good without smoke. I use the dynarocks when I can't use smoke, or for an older audience.

Yes the NJDs are good but with your budget i wouldent bother..
Look at this impossled (dmx)
http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/0903/kachris/led1.flv
the rig i recommend would be ideal for your needs..
for weddings you can have the cans on pinks (1st dance) and 18ths have them strobing....
if you get the daymos have white light scanning the room slowly..
i fell every rig needs...
Movement. (scanners / Barrels / Moving heads)
Effects. (moon flowers etc)
Wash. ( par can / panels / pin spots)

No, really don't - the motors are dire, so they are really juddery when slowed down.

After a bit of searching ive managed to pick up a set of 4 x dynamos with leads and new controller for £190 local so cant be too bad. Im hoping to use the exercet for the time being with maybe the vastos for moonflowers for slow dances and start of evening and more faster dances the dynamos with a dmx controller connected for more control.
Im gonna sell the Tango now. Just really need a haze machine to set off the dynamos.
