Speaker help - will this work?

Hi i have a set of Tannoy T 12's

They are great speakers but they are dual concentric and one of the drivers has gone.
Tannoy charge £70 for a replacement a price i do not wish to pay.

i also have a set of smartsound speakers 12 inch. they have Eminence Delta 12a drivers in but no top end (maybe in my garage).
the crossover of the ss speakers is very simple where as the Tannoy looks much more effective and it is lined with some great foam.

i would just swap over eminence to the tannoy but being dual concentric the top end comes out the middle so thats not possible!

My question is:

- can i remove the inners from the Tannoy and put them in the smartsound with the eminence driver (loads of room).
- what top end driver could i get to match that? There is an 8.5 cm square hole but room to cut a bigger one (i would rather not).

the whole lot will be powered with a 400 watt per channel amp 8ohms
will it all work (i cant see why not)

I will then sell the parts of the tannoys seperately including the working driver & top end from the dual concentric.

Just pay the £70.

Speakers are designed to go in certain cabinets - you could move everything over and find it sounds crap!

You may have a point! :) just fancied a little project.
they are backup as im using mackies.

i will get another driver and sell the Tannoys i think as they are great!

looking for 12 inch ones.

I just want a smaller/lighter set of speakers for backup & additional use.
The smartsound are OK but there is alot of wasted room which affects weight.

Would go with Darren's advice, £70 aint the end of the world and could save you more than that if you encounter problems :)

I can test the drivers in the tannoy casing without moving anything.

:D its only for one driver. The other half of the dual concentric is OK (i think) LOL. i could not really give a toss as they are spares anyway. good speakers (Tannoy) but damn heavy for the road.

Im selling them when they are fixed.

NO.

Buying a genuine Tannoy driver from Tannoy and fitting it to the Tannoy cab.
Its dual concentric so i will have no choice but buy a genuine part.

i was refering to changing it over to my smart sound cabs which i am not doing now.
