I've been DJ'ing for a while as a hobby for friends but now decided to go full time after taking redundancy from my job after 20 years (the pay-off should keep me going for a while). I don't think I can face going back into the 9 to 5 grind unless absolutley necessary.
Luckily most of my friends have similar tastes in music to me (or are open minded enough to listen to different genres) so have had some great parties playing R'n'B and Garage (as in the 60's style - not this new fangled stuff) Funk, Jazz, Soul, Reggae, Ska, Pyschedelia, Blues etc etc. though I'm also more than happy playing the usual wedding type music (Dancing Queen, Love Shack. 70's 80's etc) when it's what the crowd want. I don't accept parties where House, Trance etc type music is wanted - it's not what I'm into and there's plenty of other people who love this music and would do a far better job of it than I would (though have been known to throw a chart and R'n'B set together as a special favour once in a while).
Another audience I love playing for are the Anniversery parties - lots of Rock'n'Roll, Easy Listening, Big Band type stuff - they are always so appreciative (and do excellent buffets!).
Anyway that's all for now folks....
