Just in the process of replacing the shelves on the deck stands.
We're doing our own rather than buying the pre-made ultimax shelves (The ones we've made actually fit better..... we can actually lift the stand up by the shelf and it doesn't move! )
However, we're undecided how to 'finish' them, so asking everyone for inspiration.
What finish do you have / prefer on your shelves? Paint? Carpet? Fabric? Leather-look? Other?

Carpet would be a good finish in my opinion as it wears very well and doesnt chip like paint. Leather unfortunatly tears as does the old pvc coverings.

+1 for carpet , equipment tends not to slip.
maybe worth checking if there's a fabric shop near you.

Gold lame with silver trim. :lol:Well, funny you should say that.... (not the gold lame bit) but one of the options we have been running around in our head is riveting silver extrusion around the edges of the shelf :D

DaryllTrust me, I know most fabric shops - both on and off line! Can't say I've ever seen them selling carpet covering though!!
Terralec sell carpet covering on-line though.....not sure if there are any others ????

That's what I'd do. Vinyl gets ripped too easily and you can't see the board anyway once it's got gear on.

Nope! Just re-paint them every so often. However, i'm going to make some thinner ones that are carpet covered.

My fault , I was thinking along the lines of a felt type material , in the USA , some speaker coverings are refered to as " Rat fur "

Mine are diamond encrusted :D :D :D
Seriously, I use 'Terralec carpet'. Have used the same shelves for 4 years and an occasional vacuum and they look as good as new still.

Sorry to go slightly off topic , and this is a serious question.
How long are the shelves that fit the ultimax 1.2m deck stand , is the 1.2m stand 1.2m between the ends , or 1.2 overall , including the ends ?
Cheers

And you really think they are going to be the slightest bit interested in a shelf that your gear is sitting on???
Come on Chris...:p

Bass bin covering material on eBay (for car subs), Halfords also sell this stuff (funnily enough, at a higher price than you'll see on eBay). Most reputable car customisation shops will sell it too.
Maplins also do a thick and thin speaker covering cloth, but it's typically not available through the high street stores.

You cant see much of the shelf. My big box sits straight on the cross member and the shelf holds my lappy and hdd. Its black, so i doubt they would notice it :)
As for set up, if i can help it, no they dont see it as it sits in a storage box, with it only being a small one :)
