How much are you guys paying for PAT testing

dont think i have posted this in the right part of the forum but here we go....
pat testing due in april, i paid £62.50 + vat which worked out at £2.50 per item + vat and he came to me. took him just over 2 hours inc a cup of coffee and a chat. how does this compare around the country.

We charge £1.80 per item for anything up to 100 items with a minimum fee of £50.

Anything between 101 - 500 items then drops down to £1.50 each.

I do something similar - i do a Wedding aniversay for cost and before the gig he Pat Tests all mine some 200 items :) :) an arrangement we are both happy with

for last 3 years ive been paying £45 for about 40 items, and the guy came to my house to do the tests.

He's retired now so i'll need to find a new tester for this years test.

Was thinking about buying a tester and doing it myself

I always thought you had to a qualified spark to be able to that?

Nope, just to be a competent person.

I guess a qualified electrician would qualify in that respect.

You can also do C&G courses for PAT

Yeah I guess you're right Steve the last electrical wholesaler I woked did C&G courses for this sort of thing I seem to remember

My main man Bob Grainger does mine... arrives via train & taxi and charges £1.50 per item, min of £60.

This leads me to say,why do some of you go for the "cheapest "option available,then on the other side we try and charge our customers as much as possible for our services.

Some of us will tell prospective clients that the "cheaper " dj is not always offering the best sevice ...............................but when it comes to us paying for a service,its allright for us to shop around and compare prices.

Its slightly different in this case however as PAT Testing is more of a product than a service.

All PAT Testing companies are pretty much of the same standard, City & Guilds qualified etc etc. These companies (including my own) compete mainly on price as its a price driven market place.

Unlike discos with site visits, different equipment, different types of DJ's etc etc with PAT Testing it is more simplified.

As long as the PAT company you book is insured, full qualified, can come at a time to suit you and issue you with a certificate and invoice then PRICE is the big factor in who people book!

Am I right in thinking that you are only required to have PAT Testing once the specific electrical item has been in use for 1 year?

Therefore, if you use it for less than a year, you're not required to have it tested or certified?

What happens if you have just bought a new item, and venues ask for proof of PAT?

Already mentioned numerous times on the forum Max (Have a search and read all the info available): even a brand new piece of kit should have PAT. It is not unheard of for new kit to fail (we all know it shouldn't, but it does happen).
