Hi all,
Thought I'd share this one with you.
Had a call earlier today from someone that I gave a quotation to at the Wedding Fayre last week. She called to confirm that she wants to go ahead and book me.
She also told me the following which was both funny and also complimentary.
She said that she had told a friend at work that she had finally found a really good DJ for her wedding. Her workmate said "Hold on, I know a fantastic DJ". Apparently the girl said "Well, this guy seems really nice and friendly and we've kind of made up our minds now"....It turns out that they were both talking about the same DJ.......Me!
I just thought that was such a good thing to hear. I don't know who the other person is but they were obviously very complimentary and it just goes to show that 'word of mouth' IS the best form of advertising.
Apologies if you think I am 'winkle waving'....I'm not.
Cheers

Not at all, there's lots more on here that would make far more fuss about far less.
Well done.

I would love to have been a fly on the wall when they realised they were both talking about the same person :D

Same here!
I'm just glad it went that way and not the other way. Imagine it - The girl says "We've found a DJ who is really friendly and we've made our minds up now" and the other person asks who it is and then slates me! Talk about confuse someone.

Without wishing to urinate on your bonfire, how on earth would she know if you were a good DJ or not, having only met you at a Wedding Fayre. You've obviously sold yourself very well as she's gone ahead and booked you, but she doesn't actually know whether you're good, bad or indifferent.

That's actually a very good point!
However, I'd still like to say congratulations, Gary. You are clearly a people person who comes over extremely well when chatting to prospective clients.

Awwww, not so elimentary my dear Corbar - upon closer inspection the "I've found a good DJ for my Wedding" came before the other women said "hold on a minute" :p

On a similar note, last weekend I did a wedding for a client who I first met back in spring 2008 after she'd found me on the web.
In December 2008 I did a wedding for a client who had apparently, on the face of it, just looked me up and booked me. It turns out on the night that the February 2010 couple had recommended me to their friend on the basis of a 30 minute meeting in a pub and our email interactions, and a good night was had by all.
In July 2009 I did a wedding for a client who had apparently, on the face of it, just looked me up and booked me. It turns out at the pre-meeting that the February 2010 couple had recommended me to their friend on the basis of a 30 minute meeting in a pub, and then further feedback from friend #1 whose wedding I did in December 2009. Friend #1 wasn't close to friend #2 and so wasn't invited to her wedding.
So in essence, on the basis of my approach and a brief chat in a pub almost two years prior to the wedding, one client became three :) Hopefully soon to be four as another friend approached me on Saturday wanting me to go and see them in a couple of weeks time :beer1:

Bless, I'm not jealous of you in the slightest Gary, it's just something like this is what I'd probably say to the Mrs, not 2000 other DJ's ;) The very fact you said "Apologies if you think I'm winkle waving.....I'm not" Just goes to show you were very aware of the fact you just had ;)

Firstly Bells'.... Please don't patronise me with the whole "Bless..." thing. I'm 42 (on monday) not 10 years old. You'll be calling me 'Bruv' next in a Chav type manner.
Secondly, I thought I would share the story with everyone. I didn't expect everyone to like it but I DID expect some of the usual suspects to have their say so you didn't disappoint me and at the end of the day, as we all know, you can't please all of the people all of the time (I bet some will claim they can though eh!? ;) ).
Lastly, my 'Winkle Waving' apology - I apologised in advance just incase someone thought or read my post as exactly that (which it wasn't).
If I really wanted to 'Winkle Wave', believe me...there's a few things I could post on here that YOU would obviously hate. It seems that some people ;) just can't handle the fact that others are doing well....that's a shame.
I'm not going to sit here arguing with the likes of you and bringing the forum down. If you have a problem with me doing well then that's up to you. If you think that's 'Winkle Waving' when I stated it wasn't...well, that's another problem for you and not me. Maybe you're a psychologist in which case you may be better suited to that career? ;)

Steve,
Just replying to Bell's reply, that's all. If I said exactly the same thing in the pub to a group of mates etc....it's more than likely that they would all go "Well done mate, glad everything is going well for you"...NOT..."Oh Gary, you're just showing off mate". Which I'm not!
I could also say the same thing to a whole group of other DJ's and the same thing would happen (as it has done for the most part of this thread).
When you post on a forum you don't get the feeling behind the text that appears on the screen.... I was grinning and laughing when I wrote the original post and I would be the same if I told anyone in 'real life'.

Sorry Simon, I didn't see your question.
I don't know how she knew. She may have seen the website beforehand where I had put a note on the frontpage saying I would be at the Wedding Fayre? I may have been recommended to her in advance or she may have just liked the way I came across and all the enthusiasm and information that I gave her?
Remember, I was using her words...what she told me. To say "He was a really good DJ" is good but how she came to that conclusion without possibly seeing me before (maybe she had and didn't mention it?)...well, I don't know?

Absolutely mate - I was being a touch pedantic and playing devils advocate with my comment, but you seem to know exactly where I was coming from and the spirit in which it was intended :)

Nah, I don't think he was. Simply pointing out the umour and coincidence of the situation.

My assumption is that the second woman has seen him work in a proper situation.
