Well thats it i've had enough

Not for the first time latey tonight my website is down, can't get my mail all because of 1and1 internet having a dns issue so its time to move

I mean it comes to something when a client rings you and says do you know your site is down and emails bouncing back at me.

Who do you guys use to host your domain name not your website ?

I am currently moving to fasthosts away from the pains of 1and1 but the server is seperate setup to the doman host.

Mine are with 123reg, all 37 of them :D

I have a reseller package for the actual web hosting.

You can get free web hosting with NADJ.

I had the same problem with 1&1 just before xmas (of all times)

I eventually, after a series of frustrating phone calls over about 2 weeks to them, managed to get it sorted.

that's the only real problem i've had with them though in 3 years.

i must admit i was on the verge of leaving, just wasn't sure what hastle i'd have to go through to leave.

I've been around a few hosting companies over the years but now swear by EUKHOST.com. Not the cheapest, but their customer service is absolutely spot on. They are VERY quick to respond and extremely helpful in all aspects.

Currently have about 120-ish domains with them, about a 50/50 split between a semi-dedicated server (although looking to upgrade soon :approve:) and individual hosting packages depending on the customer's needs.

1 and 1 host one domain for me---no problems.

Avoid 1&1 like the plague. Their security sucks. They changed the IPS tag of one (of only 2 domains I had with them) without my authorisation, effectively giving control of the domain to someone else....the someone else was phoning up pretending to be me AFTER I had gotten warning about it (they'd tried 3 times already, and each time I got a "rate our serice for your recent contact" email from 1&1) and placed a verbal password on my account for phone contact.

In the case of .co.uk it's not a problem as a quick £10 to nominet (with proof of ID) and they change the tag back...but that's not the point (which is - avoid 1&1)!

MarcJ does this I believe and very good by all accounts.....try PM'ing him. :)I handle client domains on their behalf but usually only if they host with me as well - and usually thrown in for free.

In the interests of balance I have to confess to have used 1&1 for nearly 8 years now with no issues whatsoever.

As someone who has a pretty standard business hosting account with 4 or 5 websites, email and 25 urls hosted it does everything I need for a very reasonable price. I don't think I have experienced any downtime ever.

However I appreciate that "web gurus" using a dedicated server or similar service may have had a different experience, possibly because you want or need the products to do so much more than I do.

If I was looking for a dedicated server or reseller account I would use UK2.net (http://www.uk2.net/).

Dan, do you really have 37?!?!?!

Yes, a handful are for other people, but mainly mine. Alot I'm just sitting on, but I also have both .com/.co.uk and with/without hyphens for main sites to stop other people using them, which all adds up.

Ok Marc I accept your statement as fact--but who would want to try and take over a domain called swaysland.co.uk

or Crazy K come to that

They would have to be completely---

heres the latest

so i have applied to move all of my domain names last night to fasthosts,

4 out of the 5 have transfer within a few hours but the main one which is where all my mail goes through is now pending and 1and1 have cocked it up and now i have to live with it untill they get off there back sides and sort this .

As far as peoples comments goes 1and1 security does suck they ask for your password over the phone the password that controls you online access to your account (something not right about that to me )

glad to be rid of them soon i hope,

I got my website designed by a mate a few years ago and I signed up with burstfire (burstfite.net) as my domain host. I wouldn't go anywhere else as I can manage my payments online and they are very laid back + helpful at the same time! Any issues I have had (which are not many) they have got straight back to me and sorted them. Only 1 issue though if you use webmail through them there has always been a problem in replying. I have always overcome this by replying from a separate email address but as far as receiving emails and info from my website enquiry form it works a treat!

I have used 3ix (http://www.3ix.com) before

The prices are great, the customer service is excellent with the what appears to be 24-7 instant messenger help service, but I have had downtime from it before.

No, it wasn't a business site luckily.
