Has anyone ever thought about using the Wordpress platform for your DJ website?

Reason I ask if that people are now designing some awesome templates that don't look like a blog, which is what Wordpress really is.

You can also add many plugins that can help and do work with SEO as well as other plugins for Twitter ect.

For people who don't know what wordpress is, watch this short video. Very interesting for newbies.

I've used WordPress for a variety of other websites, and it's proved to be really effective and very easy to edit for people that don't have access to software like Dreamweaver.

Wordpress (Joomla!, Mambo, Drupal and dozens of CMS systems like them (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_content_management_systems)) can certainly be used to put together good-looking and functional websites and are definitely preferable to pretty much any template system (MrSite, Vistaprint, Moonfruit et al).

HOWEVER, a strong website should be purpose-built, optimised and bloat-free. It needs to be fast loading, clean and highly targeted. Content should be pristine, accurate and meaningful.

CMS have their place. I use them. Mostly for blogs but also for low-cost community-type websites which act as a noticeboard and have multiple contributors.

If you're serious about your business, you know what you should do ;)

If you're playing at being a DJ, then a DIY site is fine. It conveys the right message.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but is Wordpress type systems best suited for sites that update their content regularly than site with Joomla/Mambo CMS systems.

Running the website for our business, I would find wordpress type of system a burden.

Its design and architecture tends to lend itself to sites such as this, yes.

But there's nothing stopping you using it to build a "static" website, which I think was the OP's suggestion.

Sledgehammers and nuts spring to mind though :)

Here is a nice site done in Wordpress http://www.junowebdesign.com/

To make a nice site in Wordpress it does help to have a bit of knowledge of HTML, CSS and PHP. As any templates that you may need to alter to customize the themes contain all of the above. That said though they are fairly basic and there are lots of tutorials out there.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with using a CMS to create a DJ site.

I love Joomla... and with a massive abundance of addons and extensions, you can create a very very versatile site and interactive site.

If you check out my site (alexentertainment.co.uk) I've actually intergrated DJ Event Planner into my site... so clients can access their party details and get quotes and make payments.
