Laser Brands

There's quite a number of brands out there retailing professional disco laser projectors - from Laser World, Laser-UK, Kam, Equinox etc. Having looked round the marketplace, Laser World seem to be offering exceptional quality laser projectors in regard to the built quality and their pricing structures. I'd be tempted to go with a Laser World laser projector because their stuff looks very impressive and most importantly, built to last.

What's your thoughts on this? Do you have any brands you like and any brands you'd stay well clear of? This will be an interesting outcome because it'll give professionals and novices alike an insight into which brands are recommended.

Well, I bought a Prolight Equinox Zodiac laser OVER a Laser-UK one, as the built in patterns in the Zodiac, where a lot smoother and less manic than the Laser-UK one. I also have a Prolight Equinox Nebula laser, which I bought instead of the KAM one - as it was a lot cheaper at the time.

Steer clear of Laserworld.
There lasers look good and the boxes they are built in are quite well made its just the rest of it that lets it down.

They dont have very good diodes in and the never output the rated power they say they do, in some cases i have even seen in a 1watt green laser the diode was only capable of producing a measly 500mw - half the power it said on the tin. The diode only managed 495mw when tested too!

The scan speeds are all a little cheeky one too - 60000pps? maybe at a couple of degrees but to do a show - no chance.

All the major components of laserworld lasers are stretched to their limit and subsequently do not last very long.

Which is fine as they have a good warranty i here you say!
they may have but read the small print - they don't cover the diodes which is the expensive bit and the most likely to fail on their products.

I see your points here. It's really suprising that Laserworld are advertising technical specifications and from what you say, not 100% accurate which is quite shocking really, considering Laser World is probably the biggest laser projector manufacturers. I have however noticed on their technical specifications that they do give a guaranteed and typical laser power ratings!

Fair point.
However how many people have the test gear and the knowlage to find out.
Bizzarly I just googled the problem and there is alot of info on it about on the web. Take a look on YouTube for some test videos.

I have experience with 4 brands.

GVG - poor build quality, stepper motors don't last very long, very jerky, abysmal support.

Purelight - a couple of issues with green diodes failing after a few months, replaced under warranty no problems. Very bright, well built for a budget brand.

American DJ (X-Move) - noisy fan and diode beginning to fade with less than 50 hours on the device. Currently in discussion with retailer as the unit is more than a year old but has seen little use (obviously!) so will keep you posted on developments.

Equinox - have now had a Nebula since launch day, a Sigma since launch day and a Pegasus 4-head unit bought secondhand from a member here. All units get regular use - the Nebula is on virtually all night every gig - and not a single issue to date. Very happy with Equinox.

I've seen Lanta and they look okay. How many years warranty do you get and does the warranty cover diodes?

A full years warranty that includes the diodes.
