Sub - Moving From Passive To Active..

Hi all,
Current system is two full range NJD celestion 300 watt speakers powered by 600 watt soundlab amp and for larger gigs two carlsbro 300 watt subs also powered by soundlab amp with a KAM crossover..

Want to go down the powered route and use just one sub. As the amount of outings we've had with the carlsbro subs has been non existant so having one powwered sub would be saving storage space at my house and would generally be a lot easier for when we do 18ths and proms etc.

Found this on ebay and wanted your thoughts:

Its 400 watts so I think with the current system it wouldnt ever be overpowered or anything? And looking at the measurement it could go under our rig and not be seen... Are there implications of putting a sub on its side?

Yes this is why i put up the link to see what people thoughts were... it does look pretty sound but ive never heard of L2 Audio?

From the pictures it also looks pretty well made... however doesnt give me any indications on the sound quality! :confused:

If they haven't got a track record, then I'd be very wary.

That brand looks like a blatant rip off of logic systems. 122db max doesn't sound to good, i don't think it would be powerful enough to keep up with your tops. Also 45 kg is quite heavy considering the low spl.

If thats the top of your budget i think you look for second hand, you can get some good deals on ebay.

400watts is not a lot - if your going to get them I would go for 2 and put the tops on poles. Make a nice looking show....but as Daz said....new to the market would worry me slightly. :)

Thats what I just thought, The logo design is identical and the grill design is pretty identical too.

Save your money and get something that is more known and people on here have or used.

Yeah - the volume knob is the wrong way round.....:D

Don't belive this makes the slightest diference byt A1 Tony will tell you. :)

It might if it is convection cooled - this is easy to tell, if the unit is fitted with a finned heatsink at the back, with the vanes vertical when the sub is the correct way round, and no fan is visible, then chances are it is convection cooled.

Changing the orientation of the fins will effect how efficient the heatsink is at getting rid of heat - this could make the unit run a fair bit warmer if run hard.

All modern units will be fitted with over temperature protection, so you can always try it, and just keep tabs on it. if it cuts out due to overheating, put it back the right way round!

It's a db sub 05 and It has a fan at the rear with no fins....

I think this should be ok then :D :D

yes, if it is fan cooled i really cant see any issues
