As promised elsewhere, the serious answer.

Unfortunately, as in many areas, image can be important. I'm in my mid fifties, but I regularly play eighteenth parties. I regularly enjoy them, as well, but that's not the point. Yes, some punters are surprised when I have the "modern bangin' choons", but they shouldn't be. If I didn't have them, I shouldn't be doing the job. Simples.

Ugly? Well I don't get chatted up as often as I'd like, and a couple of folk on here will never win any beauty contests, but still get work and satisfied customers.

Hairy? Nowadays, mine's getting to be less consistent, and steadfastly refuses to grow where I'd like it. :( :( :( :( Never stopped me getting a gig, as far as I know.

Kernal, I hope I've caught the drift of what you're asking, and what I'd say is that as long as you provide what the customer wants, image problems should not be a serious barrier to success.

Too hairy? I'm hairier now than I've ever been. But I've fixed my hair clippers and will buy some new razors soon for the face so that will soon change and the strawberry blonde Santa-Claus-meets-Brian-Blessed look will be gone for ever!

Too ugly? The ex used to put a photo of me up on the mantelpiece to keep the kids away from the fire! When I was born, the midwife took one look at me and slapped my mam! I went shopping the other day and bought a pint of milk, a small loaf of bread, and a microwave meal for one. The checkout girl said "You're single, aren't you?". I said "Wow! You can tell that from the things I buy?". She said "No. It's 'cos you're so ugly!". 'Nuff said.

Too disabled? Disability shouldn't be a barrier to being a good DJ. Unless you've got no arms but then you could use your feet or even your nose or tongue to press play/stop. See? Anything's possible!

If you are disabled it doesn't show.


Your heart is not disabled... you have the desire to and are acheiving the aim of entertaining people and we are all impressed.

Not because you may be disabled....but because its not an easy job to do whatever your situation....:eek: :eek:

I'm disabled so to help carry the heavy stuff I pay my mate £10 a night and he just carrys the equipment about. I also use my manual wheelchair as a trolly by piling boxes on it and just pushing it through to the room.

Once had a party who did a collection for me but as I thought it was because they saw my chair I put it in the charity tub
