Hey,
I'm not sure if theres many people on the forum who use decks and that but I need advice on what to buy, I'm only starting off and want to just get the grip of things, I don't want to be paying for the name, so something newish but not brand new on the market if that makes sense. budget 500euro and nothing second hand. I have nothing at all so I need a whole setup.

I need, CD Turntables, mixer, headphones and good speakers (and anything else you might think il need)

Yeah CD Decks, I don't think il need lights for a while, allot of practice needed. I haven't once set my hands on dj equipment, but i've done some research. I work at a local voluntary fm radio, where I'm getting training on the desk. I wanted to try something different. I know for a fact my career is somewhere in the music industry, I'm just trying to find it.

Well I do mobile work and wouldn't suggest decks to do the job - but I'm sure someone will pop along and help.

A lot of the people on this forum do mobile work, so don't use CD any more...Have you tried any local clubs near you? If you're thinking of working in them, they tend to have decks already installed.

You'll find that many mobile DJs (although not all) who are still using CDs tend to use twin rack mount CD players due to the ease of transportation, and a lot have gone over to digital play-out systems.

Can we start with the basics: what is your reason for wanting separates like the pioneer kit you linked to? (The more info the members have when they re-visit the forum tomorrow, the better range of suggestions/advice you'll get :D )

Plus two turntables, the reason I wan't to steer clear of turn tables is the records are going to cost me a bomb. With cds I can easily burn the songs that i purchase off itunes onto a cd.

Well personally I prefer allot of space and be able to setup the 2 dj decks and the mixer were I want them. But I'm not sure if thats a good thing.

I'm really struggling to choose what to purchase. As I said the cd decks would save me money as I don't have any records but plenty of cds.

Mobile work = Mobile Disco.

This is where you take the disco to people.

If you ever get married or have a civil partnership - you may have a DJ (mobile disco) at you're reception. It's a form of entertainment. It's a different ball game to clubs. It's not harder, just a lot more work is required.

If you want space, go digital. Laptop, digital controllers etc. Decent amp, dual cd player, decent speakers, dj stand with overhead bar, led lights to get you started.

Hi Darkenemy, Another Dublin based dj here. I would suggest getting good second hand gear to start off as your (limited) funds will go further. I recently sold a pair of denon dn-d4000 decks that would have been perfect for you but I have some other stuff that may suit and can give you some help. Checkout the pro audio section on www.adverts.ie and you should see some good gear for sale at good prices.

if you want flexibility and compactness for mobile work take a look at the Pioneer CDJ400 with either the DJM400 or DJM5000 mixer. The CDJ400's take MP3 CD's and memory sticks so you can play stuff you haven't managed to burn to CD.

In addition they are supported natively by Traktor Pro software on a laptop so you have flexible options with built in backup to play from CD's, Memory Stick or Laptop.

The CDJ1000's you mention have been replaced now by the CDJ900 and more upmarket CDJ2000.

Yeah, I don't think it's practical to buy Decks for Mobile Work - That's my personal opinion though.

I don't know why I want decks, I just have a thing for them. Does anyone know anything I could possibly start off on cd decks wise. Something with possibly usb ports for music. I do love Pioneer I think I could stretch my budget to 1k, its just going to be for practising at home for now.
