I was reasonably happy with my website but felt it needed just a bit of TLC so after chatting with Marc it's been tweeked ;)

Main changes were to fix the width but still have a "fluid" header, add a page for starcloths. Add a different uplighting pic from the standard ones so it's now venue specific (Shottle Hall) and make a client area (thanks Steve FDDJ ;) )

There's other bits and bobs aswell but I can now say I'm happy with the site.......for the moment :D :D

I think it looks alot more professional now thanks to Marc

Feel free to have a look

What a great site, you should be very pleased with it. I'm in the process of finishing mine, if it looks half as good as yours, I'd be pleased. ;)

You are welcome, the only problem I can see is you forgot to leave in my bank details so I could have your payments... :D

Oh and I will have to remember to ignore you in my Copyscape results!

Only negative, I don't like the random "Home" button at the top, I think it would sit better at the top of the left hand navigation panel, but that's just me.

Nice, quick, clean and tidy really. :approve:

Thanks for that, it's taken a while for me to be happy with it but I am now ;)

Very nice Paul, but no link for Corporate Work?

Is there a reason, would have thought that could be lucrative:confused:

Stand alone corporate page doesn't exist as such. It used to link through to the "parties" page. Something to ponder though.

Thanks Paul. As you know the site started life as a template from 123-Reg which was a right mess (code-wise). I tend to take the opportunity to tidy bits up here and there as and when you ask me to make changes for you - it's getting there ;)

That's one of the leftovers from the 123-Reg template. Personally, I don't like it either

LOL, I noticed that when I was doing something else and forgot to remove one! If Paul doesn't take one out I'll make sure I do in the next update :)

My site is currently built using a template/wysiwig thingy via my host 1&1. It serves it's purpose and I have changed it quite a bit but it is frustrating that I can't make it exactly what I really want either. I'm not an expert but I bet the code output is probaby a right mess as well.

I assume you do build stuff from scratch as well?

My next site will be a proper paid for jobby.

Yes, it is a right mess  Most template systems (bolted on to hosting packages) have similar advantages and drawbacks - usually a fairly easy to use WYSIWYG system but the output is basically poorly written, bloated code which is nowhere close to validating. Don't get me wrong, validation isn't the be all and end all and I only code 100% WC3 valid sites if the client asks me to, but nice valid code has usually the advantage of being smaller and a lot easier to follow and edit.

They also are limiting, as you said, in that you can't do everything that you want (or at least not straightforward). Mostly this limitation relates to things like custom error pages, .htaccess features, robots.txt, custom meta tags (e.g. name="robots" content="noindex" etc.), contact forms, PHP scripting, along with the correct implementation of any Flash effects and Javascript. With tools like jQuery (http://jquery.com/) and Mootools (http://mootools.net/) providing a plethora of effects at your disposal I can see how it could get frustrating!

There is, of course, the "in-between" option of a CMS-System based site (using a system like Joomla (http://www.joomla.org/), Wordpress (http://wordpress.org/), CMSMadeSimple (http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/), Typo3 (http://typo3.com/), Drupal (http://drupal.org/) etc. etc.). These are installed on your host but you do retain complete control (through editing the tempates directly if you need to), with the end result being a system which is still easy to update / change yourself.

Lovely job, very lightweight and clean.

Sorry Marc, can I pick your brain over here?

I've yet to tinker with any kind of CMS / backend system with the exception of Magento. Would you mind dropping into my thread to share your thoughts, as it may well be a problem you have some experience with? A little nudge in the right direction and I'd owe you one!
