what WON'T you be doing this time next year?

As part of business improvment, i always think its a good idea to focus not just on the things you WILL (if all goes well) be doing next year, but also the things you WONT.

for example this time next year I WON'T be:

a) having to bust a gut doing all the services (uplighting, projectors and DJ) at once on the same night - i will get someone specifically to do the uplighting and projector for me.

b) ruining my weekends by doing events that finish at 2am, then pack up time, then a 2 hour ride home etc
- these will be subbed out.

c) messing around taking and sorting different equipment for different events - all equipment will be segragated into its own area, ie:

i) one small disco set up
ii) usual disco set up
iii) extra disco lights
iiii) uplighting pack
iv) projector pack

none of these will 'borrow' cables or leads from each other - so its a simple picking up of kit with the assurance EVERYTHING is in there with it, ie no getting to gigs then remembering I 'borrowed' a cable from it to use one of the other packages the week before.

Same here! Having half of our duo drving and the other not means we cant get it all in the fiesta... so means lifts from the parents! ... but they love it.... not!

The fact that this time next year my course almost becomes a 7 day a week one. I will be 60 miles or so from home in halls of residence. As much as i want to continue it doesn't seem feasible. :( Hopefully when I finish the course I will hopefully get back to it all. :)

What won't I be doing?? It's difficult to say, but I have scaled down on the DJ'ing work as I've been studying part time alongside my full time job - and something had to give! :(

However, this time next year, I'll hopefully be set up on my own again, rather than working for other companies and club work (the tales I could tell about that.. :eek: ). Here's hoping.. :beer1:

I have a couple of friends who have been through Uni studying Media, and are now struggling to find work. One of them has just started a job with SAAS, ironically enough!

Anyway, if you have been running your own mobile disco company, surely that will make you stand out from the crowd of graduates - and as a bonus it's very relevant to your industry.

If this forum is anything to do by, a number of people who work as DJs but don't enjoy it are probably only still doing it because they wanted to stop but got talked out of it!

We are both 20 Charlie... however I failed to pass my test before coming to uni!! ... and now i have a lack of funds to take lessons & do my theory test again!

For me, next year I won't be DJ'ing as much and will become more office based. I'm doing less this year than last year and fingers crossed I can allow that to continue.

An ideal week for me would be to do Monday to Friday in the office at home taking new bookings and getting staff to go and do the bookings that we have in allowing me to get my life back :)

When I decided to retire from mobile work (about a week ago wasn't it?), the goal was to do so if possible at the end of this year, but I think that will be difficult as you have quite a lead time to get out with stuff booked in advance and I need to replace it with other income.

Funnily enough since I said I was retiring I have been offered a fairly local regular job for good money that involves me only taking my playout box, so I may still be spinning some tunes, just without the associated hassle.
