Set up in one trip - 15-20 mins!

Hi,

Im no expert and I have nothing on quite a few of people on here :p

I have taken allot from this forum so I like to give back when i can :)

I have tweaked my kit over the last few years to arrive at a venue and set up in
minimum time possible without limiting performance quality. At a real flap i have
done it in about 15 mins from arriving at the venue, but generally i would rather
take my time so its about 30 mins with good access and NO STAIRS :p

The following pics show my set up which is not a massive rig but i tend to do
Newforest venues and the clients who pick me often ask if i am going to have
loads of gear everywhere and like the simple approach.

I have:

- 2 subs (smartsound)
- 2 RCF tops
- Amprack with four channel T.AMP (very light)
- Vestax and mac with flightcase - holds mics too.
- TBAR - impossiled, 2 triphase, 2 laser - (need one more light and control).
- 5 (poss 6 if packed right) LED par cans - although i have 6 more in the trailer if required.
- Accessories & power cables

For those who like/need lots of equipment and booths you could double up this and
make it two trips and double the set up which is still impressive.
You could easily fit that in my trailer as you can see in the pic. :)

STAIRS ARE A PAIN IN THE BUM THOUGH. But 95% of my venues do not have them.

Forgot too add that all the gear is used as a stand with some blackout.

Only thing not utilized is the speaker cases and amp-rack ends.

You can also get up small steps within 0.5m high and same long.
you need to be strong though to lift this though.

It's a good idea until you have a venue like I did last night with ramps and steps and all manor of obstacles...

I ended up unloading my big case and carrying the gear in piece by piece...

That is the problem. I would say over 90% of venues must have at least one step. One step would totally screw up the system in the OP.

I can hardly think of any venues without at least a couple of steps to go up, otherwise it would be a great idea.

Yes stairs are a pain but small steps are OK. the ramps and things are tricky and you have to lift it over door things but i rerely have a problem with it. It has fallen over a couple of times :eek:

Yes probably? I think they are too close together so is one hits a pot hole it goes over.
i tend to hold both handles and it does not happen.

Mainly on uneven grass when going in to marquees so i just put on bins now.
They are pretty big rubber ones that lock from thomman.

Not sure they do them much bigger? 10cm ones

With all the potholes n'stuff do you not find that your gear gets rattled a bit in your trailer?
just asking since I had a trailer before where you had to put the pinspot bulbs back in the fittings after a trip.:attn:

The trailer I have now was homemade by "Idunno" the box is 4 x 5 x 6ft.
It has nice big 15 inch radial tires at a lowered pressure and shock absorbers to boot.
Rides smooth like a car since nothing ever gets rattled anymore.:D

Not really. it does occasionally as most my gigs are in the middle of nowhere down potholed tracks. It would be better off in a van definitely but i have not noticed any damage too kit?

The gear is well packed and does not move about too much but can jump up and down occasionally

I love the idea of a 20min set-up :approve: and I think the overall look achieved for this amount of effort is really good. On the down side I think the laptop/playout flightcase looks very exposed and your speaker cables would look infinitely better if they where tapped in position down the back of the poles instead of being wound around them. :)

The gear is well packed and does not move about too much

And that is the important bit when using a trailer, making sure it is well packed. I used them for over 20 years with hardly any damage to kit.
