Following on from many recent threads about Brides & Prices, I wanted to share with you a few emails from a potential/now client. :)

So here is the story..

I receieved an email enquiry intially from a few weeks ago and promptly replied to her email with a follow up and then a quote.

I then received the following email a week later:

Hiya James,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I'm still getting a few quotes together, but want to sort as soon as poss.

I'll be totally up front with you, you're right in saying you're not the cheapest and my budget was £XXXmax. However, so far you have the best customer service so am weighing up everything and will hopefully get back to you towards the end of next week to let you know if I'll be booking you.

Thanks for your help,

XXXXX

My reply was this:

Hi XXXXX,

Firstly Many Thanks for your kind words in your email about my Customer Service.

I pride myself on not just been a DJ but the whole package from start to finish so I am pleased that I am doing this.

I look forward to hearing from you.

In the mean time I here is a link to feedback/testimonials from previous clients: http://www.iwanta-dj.com/Profile.aspx?ID=f8d29003-8218-46e4-87a0-97a11d4032cd

I have also uploaded a couple of “unedited” videos to YouTube for you of a Wedding we did on Saturday at XXXXXX in Stafford.

Here are the links:

I understand everyone is on a budget.

Most people at your wedding will remember the entertainment at the evening reception and you do get what you pay for, as in any industry.

I hope to hear from you soon and hopefully be your choice of entertainment for your Wedding.

Smiles :)

Well two days later and I have received this email:

Hi James,

Customer service has won out in the end, so you're hired! :) A disco from 7-12 on May 29th 2011 for £XXX.

If I have some money left in the budget after everything else is sorted I'll let you know about a pre-event meeting or the uplighters.

Did you have our address to send out the booking form? As soon as that's sorted I'll send you the deposit. I are looking forward to doing a list of music for you, but there's time to sort this and get friends to think up some classic (i.e. super cheesy) tracks.

Thanks,

XXXXX

Moral of the Story

I was only £25 above her budget, however it goes to show that the overall package is important!

So Ladies & Gentlemen there is hope for all! :beer1:

Well done James. :approve:

Do you charge extra for "pre event meetings?"

P.S - Love the mixing. ;)

I do depending on distance.

This customer is a fair distance from where I live so for my time and travel costs I had to add a little fee on top.

Thanks for the compliment. :)

Well done mate, just goes to show that customer service is a BIG selling tool. The way you answered her reply was spot on, qualifying your services and giving her links to videos. If you'd been on Dragons Den or the Apprentice, you'd have been a winner!!!! ;)

:agree: - well done :)

HOWEVER, I'm surprised the picky police haven't jumped on the glaring error yet, so I'll have to :o I'll give you a little clue...

I can agree with your point totally James and well done for getting the booking.

I had something similar after the last Wedding fayre I did. Two Brides wanted the same date in November. So both got the normal email follow up. One was alot closer geographically than the other but I priced them the same as I wasn't to know which one would say yes :D

In the end the nearer of the two got back to me and booked saying Yes I was more than she envisaged paying but the email I sent her combined with the client area on the website sold it to her.

So there you go as Tony would say "There's gold in them there hills and it's all mine" ;)

Well done James
However £25 is hardly over budget

Well done James, however I do think it depends on how much you charge?

Surely, if her budget was £200 and you quoted £400, I'd imagine their potentially naive answer would still be a resounding no. Yet if it was £200 and you quoted £225, you could understand why she swayed to saying yes and booking you?

I agree it is hardly over budget, however I stuck to my guns, as prices are fixed.

Vectis - I think I am missing your point?! Can you please explain. :)

Agreed.

Whenever possible, I ask clients why they booked me, and the same two things always come up...my website & the way & speed at which I answered their enquiry.
