In-store Wedding Fayre Promotion

Received a call from city centre Debenhams store; referred from organiser I have been speaking to about their events in October.

They are looking for a DJ to their provide services (Free of charge) throughout the year (2/3 times), as part of their in-store wedding fayre promotion.In return they will hand out business cards/flyers, as well as promote us in store all year long.

Now we have agreed to do this weekend; worse case is free promotions for us and all it cost is fuel & time.

What are your thoughts/experience of doing in-store promotions with retail chain.

Same, but always for the stores marketing not my own.

I suppose if your in an area of the store thats doing a Wedding promo then you will have an higher than average chance of meeting prospects, in essence a good idea.

A friend of mine was asked to do a Saturday and Sunday for a Debenhams wedding promotion in their Harrow store. They paid him £50 per day plus fuel expenses and allowed him to give out details and business cards.

He was only invited 3 days before the actual weekend ( I don't know if someone had cancelled ) but unfortunately he had very little promotional material available. If he had flyers or a banner that he could have put up, he might have had a more productive weekend, in the end he got 4 enquiries which he has quoted and awaiting replies.

He has said though that if given more notice, he would have gone about it a lot differently.

Honestly, she told me to what i would normally do at a wedding.

I thought to myself, well actually people are not here to party, they are looking to get ideas, prices, and meet suppliers. So, I think it will clash.

We do a monthly promotional event at cash and carry; so I will be following that same format I think as it will be safe. Like, talk to the suppliers and promote their offers etc as mentioned.

However, I will get the lay of the land in the morning and give you guys an update on day 1 of 2.

I order roller banners, but they have failed to turn up, and our postcards have been delayed. So disappointed in what i can give out, as all I will have will be business cards and a powerpoint presentation

Right an update.

After 2 days we gave out about 50 cards, received 20 enquiries and 2 confirmed booking (£400 in total).

Debenhams organisers have invited us back to for major wedding event next month, with a possible launch sex and city 2 launch at showcase cinema with debenhams.

Another exhibitor who promoting her cakes took a box of business cards off us, to give out a different wedding fayre on Sunday. (No charge, she was impressed).

All in all not a bad weekend.
