What do you use? Any good? Laser or Inkjet? I use a Lexmark X5470 at the moment (its a couple of years old) and I'm feeling the headers on the literature I send out are a little sloppy for the market I'm bashing away at. I never print off photos so that's not a requirement.

A good solid home office printer is what I'm after :D

(I did search this but the results were old and things have changed alot)

I use an HP Laserjet 1018. Cheap and cheerful at around a hundred quid, and very cheap to run.

It's a mono laser printer, but I only ever need to print in black as my letterheads are professionally printed.

I have a Xerox phaser. Its the big A3 one but the A4 printers are fantastic!!

well worth the investment especially if your doing your own promotional stuff.

FORGET INKJET PRINTERS! They cost you more and are a pain in the bum.

Me neither...and I've used them for more than a decade.

I've always found them to be very cheap as well as producing excellent quality copies.

I run a 10-year-old HP Laserjet 2200DN mono which is very economical, produces great output and gets a right hammering by Mrs VV (teacher) plus a Canon MP610 all-in-one inkjet for occasional colour use.

I bought the MP610 over the newer MP620 because of various reviews that confirmed that the ink was much cheaper yet the output quality was identical.

I probably wouldn't buy another inkjet though as I've had several over the years, of different makes, and never quite been happy with the results. When the laserjet eventually dies I'll be getting a colour laser.

I used to think that before i bought my printer.
im sure modern inkjets are pretty efficient but everytime i have to use one it just bores the hell out of me.

prints 1 page a second,
does not need to dry,
Automatically prints double sided,
better quality print with a nice silk finish
can go up to 250 gsm card,
can take 300 sheets of 120 gsm,
I have had mine for five years and it has never gone wrong,
Solid toner that lasts for months - no messy inks - works out cheaper if you use brand inks.

I suppose on negative is it takes up more space.

When the laserjet eventually dies I'll be getting a colour laser.

I would only buy an xerox or canon though and I guess the very good inkjets are not bad either. :)
have a look at businesses closing down and selling stock.

I have several inkjet printers including a little portable Canon which I can take with me to meets to print contracts there and then (I used to use it when I did CV's for people in their homes) and a HP multifunction unit which does all my main printing, scanning and photocopying.

I've Googled this range and they all seem to be 30ppm so only half the speed you're suggesting.

This is a review by PCPro of one of the printers in the range and it doesn't fill me with confidence:

I did say that modern inkjets are not bad. good value for money too.

I have a GX 7760 A3 machine.

the model you were suggesting is a cheap one and i would not touch it.
For a decent A4 laser it will cost money.

So approximately £6,000 for a printer??

In one of my past jobs I used to use a £25,000 colour plotter (I worked in a design office for Philips and it was used for CAD purposes - it was huge!).

But we are talking about home/office equipment here so I think that particular model might be a bit out of range!

The specs still state 45PPM Black and 35PPM colour, though! :p

:p You can get them used for allot less.

Its an investment if your going to use it heavily though.
Mine has paid for itself many times over :)

Obviously I'm referring to the smaller desktop version.
OK then probably 1 page every 2 seconds still not too bad for the quality and you can get them used for a good price too. :)

did not do my research on that one :D

I suppose it depends on your requirements.

I'm not worried about the print speed or the fact that they need 20 seconds to dry. My printer has the ability to print double sided if I wish. The print quality is easily good enough for my requirements. I don't need the ability to print on card or to have a printer that takes 300 sheets.

I've also had my printer for about 5 years with no problems at all.

Unless you use refill kits, I wouldn't describe inkjet carts as messy at all..you just pull off the protective tape & install them. I've never got messy doing this.

It's an HP deskjet 6122, Mark.

I'm not sure whether they still make them, as I got it about 5 years ago.

I think I paid around £160.

No problems with it at all.

Absolutely fantastic and very fast. I would highly recommend.

If you do a lot of printing forget inkjets they are just too expensive to run and painfully slow.

They're not too expensive to run if you get the manufacturers original ink carts for about 75% off their retail price.

Bad idea xD Over time the wreck the print heads in your printer. :) meaning you need a new printer faster. I had a loverly Brother all in one that was only a year old but had to be thrown out as i had damaged the print heads with the cheap inks.

Callum,

You've misunderstood what I was saying.

I'm talking about original ink carts made by the manufacturer for your printer...not refilled or equivalent size carts made by different companies.

The secret is knowing where to get them.

The secret is knowing where to get them.

;)...and I take it with all the mystery you're creating around this point that you aren't going to share that secret with your fellow forum members?

Funnily enough, our printer went kaput the other week (I can probably repair it fairly easily, but haven't got around to it).

I've always had great results with Canon, so I'm after a new model they've recently brought out, but everywhere is out of stock at the moment. It does everything I want bar making dinner! http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Multifunctionals/Inkjet/PIXMA_MX870/index.asp

As everywhere is out of stock, I decided to get a cheap printer to tide me over, and ended up getting a bargain in Argos! Got one of these http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Multifunctionals/Inkjet/PIXMA_MP250/index.asp for £20-£30!!! Will see me through nicely until I can get the other one.

I already HAVE, Angela...as it's something I've mentioned on a fair few occasions before.

It's quite simple really...I buy my ink carts on ebay. These are original brand new carts which are within their expiry date.

If I remember rightly, my local Staples is selling these for more than £37 each, but having checked my ebay account, the last one I bought was £9 including postage and the one before that was £8.50 post free.

It's a complete no-brainer.
