I was booked to do a 40th birthday party last Saturday. It's been booked for months, and I have been in regular contact with the client. He sent me a last minute playlist for the evening, which contained all 80's music. A lot of it was not really mainstream so I had to do a fair bit of downloading. Not a problem as it all adds to my music library.

Got to the venue with plenty of time to set up, as I was using a slightly differnt setup, and wanted to uplight the seating area near the bar. Everything was setup 30 minutes before the guests were due to arrive, so had a play with some of the evenings songs to get a feel for some of the ones I was not familiar with.

Anyway, the guests finally start to arrive and guess what, it's a 70's fancy dress party.

How the client forgot to mention this I don't know.

So in the end I didn't play a single song from his playlist.

Luckily I use a laptop as my main playout system with backup form cd's. I usually carry about 50 cd's with me to cover most genres, but I would not have been able to fill 4 hours with 70's music.

As it turned out, it was a fantasic night with dancing from start to finish.

So did he screw up with the playlist, or was it your muddle up?

Definetly his. He hadn't mentioned anything about 70's or fancy dress to me.

Well done. :beer1:

It was a lucky escape.

This is my usual playout system, and a picture of some of the loverly people dancing. My photographic skills don't do the lighting justice. I need to put a filter on my flash to make it less bright.

I'm confused.

If the organiser was arranging a party with a 70's theme, why were his requests all from the 80's?

That's my point.

I don't know why either.
