I had a wedding consultation on Sunday in Winchester.
Lovely couple , they have a nice venue,the Tithe barn near petersfield http://www.tithe-barn.co.uk/
anyway , I am getting all the info , such as timing ,up-lighting etc , then I ask what they would like for the first dance..

Earlier this year I had one and the groom wanted Poison for their first dance, the bride wanted a Bon Jovi track instead, after much discussion (read that as heated argument) between themselves they settled on Bon Jovi immediately followed by Poison!!!

I sometimes think people don't listen to any of the lyrics in a some apart from the hook.

Had a vows renewal party last Friday. The "groom" requested I perform "When You're In Love With a Beautiful Woman" (Dr Hook) and Elvis' "Suspicious Minds".

I spent the set wondering at what point he was going to jump on stage with evidence of her infidelity, or something.

Gladly, neither of these scenarios proved true: just my paranoid imagination! :-)
(They in fact danced to both fervantly!)

Best first Dance we have ever done was Labi Safri "Something inside so strong" Wierd!

People just don't listen to the songs.

My wife and I nearly had The Smiths "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" just for poops and giggles.

it's ok playing these songs for the first dance as it is what the bride and groom want,and obviously means something to them.

but it does seem to cause a jaw dropping moment from the rest of the audience,and they inevitably look accross to the dj.........as if to say what the heck is he playing that for.

And that is the crux of the matter , they are not telling anyone the firsr dance , thsy said it will be a suprise , yep , your not wrong :D :D

i got asked to play englebert humperdinck and julio iglesias songs at last weekends wedding.

cue 'please release me' during the cutting of the cake..!!! doh!

I had a wedding ask for a usual wedding song but asked me to kill it with a 'slowing' down effect (he meant a brake effect) after the first chorus as that wasn't the song they really wanted, but they had a bit of it as that was the wedding protocol, then I went straight into the Wannadies, You & Me Song, Quality with a capital K !!!

The other part of the thread is about inappropriate requests, I hate it when people ask me to play Brown Eyed Girl for their 'Brown Eyed Girl' at a Christening or whatever, it's a song that the words don't mean what you think if you just glaze over it singing.
