Is the site dedicated to weddings then?

Huh? Am I missing something? :)

It is just purely for Wedding Receptions, if people are looking for a disco for any other event they are directed to my main SJS Discos site.

Yeah, you have 2 lots of feedback and one isn't from a wedding. ;)

Ahhh :o That'll be because all my other written feedback is from other events...I thought it was kinda relevant temporarily, as it was an Anniversary :(

It'll be updated as soon as I get more feedback sent to me from Weddings.

It's only a small thing, but this is a 'specialist' wedding site so it seemed a bit strange.

OK, thanks. What do think about the site in iteself e.g. layout, text pictures etc?

There something about it doesnt seem to strike me as proffessional.

The two things for me is its all a very neutral colour which would put me off.
- Looks a little dated in my opinion (sorry). But should do the job nether the less!

as an example i took over this business recently http://www.myhandbagshop.co.uk/
I have changed the colour to this (attached) this is a mock up for the hosting company as i cant touch it  .

Also the gallery only seems to have a clubby type party in it? Team up with a local photographer and use some of their images in return for advertising. :)

the top banner is a bit crammed it would be great if you could get some flash like on charlie browns site?

other than that it looks really good!

Thanks Toby.

I used a photographer, I met at a Wedding (he was the Bride & Grooms friend), and he came to an 18th and took pictures for me. - Good price too!

I will give him a call as I need some pictures of Wedding Receptions to add to the site.

It looks alright.

Something is missing though....some kind of spark.

Doesn't shout "amazing" to me...but it's a lot better then most sites!

To say you designed it yourself - well done. :approve: :beer1:

How dare you accuse me of such things!...I would never do a thing like that. :p :p :D :D :D

The inspiration was from your site and I re-worded some of your wording.

(For everyone else on the forum, I did PM Steve about using some wording off his website and re-wording it to suit mine)

And I did agree as I was changing mine anyway, just pulling his leg... ;)

From your website:

"We have many years of experience and many Wedding Receptions under
our belt"

From the forum

"Looking through my Diary, over the past couple of years, I have done 17 Weddings"

I find that rather confusing.

I'm sorry, I have to agree and I've already said so.

I have now edited this to read:

"We have many years of experience in the mobile disco industry and have numerous Wedding Receptions under our belt, most of which have come from previous client recommendations."

Sorry to be picky Scott, but what are you defining as 'many'?

SC Events
27-04-2010, 11:51 AM
Well, i've only been earning money from DJ'ing for 2 years, but I first started DJ'ing when I was 12, which in total is 7 years.

I don't think 17 in two years is numerous - two months perhaps!

Too many "haves".

I worded it like that because I don't think this sounds great:

We have been providing discos for 7 years and in that time we have entertained at 17 Wedding Receptions, most of which have been referrals from previous clients.

I know if I was a bride (A bit worrying if I was!) I would be put off by only seeing less than 10 years experience and 17 Weddings, when other DJ's have loads more.

Too many "haves".

Any ideas how to re-word that Steve? Thanks

Did you do many weddings when you were 12? The point I am trying to make is I think it is misleading Scott saying you have been DJing for 'many years'. You haven't really. You have been DJing for 2 years and before that were a child just playing if you weren't earning from it.

As I said before, I'm not having a pop at you as I think you're a great bloke, but I don't like misleading info or BS as I think there is way too much of it in this industry.

I understand Darren. I did my first Wedding on Saturday 28th June in a Marquee - It was only my 3rd paying gig, they seemed to enjoy it though as they kept chucking money at us to keep going :D :D.

My English is not the best, in fact I got a 'D' at school, so went to Night classes at my local College last year to re-do it and I got a 'C'...so, I would be extremely grateful if people could suggest better ways of re-wording sentences (Like Steve has) to improve my site. :)

Daz is spot on any Bride reading the web-site will think that they are hiring a seasoned professional with a huge experience of performing at Weddings, where infact they are getting someone that has done a wedding now and again over a couple of years!
I'm not trying to put you down here, for all I know you might be a cracking DJ, and you certainly aren't the only one guilty of this, but tell it as it is!

By August 17 will have almost tripled as nearly every event I have booked in now is Weddings, with 2 more waiting to get back to me. :)

I just think that if Brides see I only have 2 'real' years experience they will straight away look elsewhere. :(

Which means you are misleading them and that is not a great way to start. What happens if someone books you and you have a nightmare (happens to the best of us!) and she starts to make a real fuss about your lack of experience?

I guess i'd just have to deal with it best I can just like I've had to at a couple of parties before.

However, what would you suggest changing it to on my website?

Don't quantify it then.

Just talk about being an "Experienced DJ". If they're really picky they'll drill you on the phone or by email and then you get the chance to set out your stall.

Hi Scott,

Please note I haven't read these posts so I don't know whether I am repeating old news...

The bigest thing that hits me is the picture of the bride and groom. As a 'bride' I would mainly want to see YOU and YOUR SET UP (you can see I am not disco minded).

To me it's too weddingy and not enough disco'y (doubt those words are in the dictionary).

Hope that help!!!

Hi Julian,

Thanks for your input. The picture on the home page will be change to one of a B & G during their First Dance.

I also intend (maybe) putting a couple of other pictures on the home page and updating the gallery so there are more Wedding pictures in there.

Scott.

Indeed you aren't...:p

Brides generally are not the slightest bit interested in equipment Jules, which is why I am guessing Scott hasn't put pictures of that.

pictures of rig & DJ - next to no interest.
pictures of people on the dancefloor at events - must more interest
