How much time?

Hi Everyone

I think this must have been asked before although I can't seem to find it. Sorry if it has, i'm fairly new. (does that let me off?)

Just wondering how much time you guys spend preparing for each gig.

I normally spend about an hour and a half, looking at music for the type of function, preparing questions etc.

What does everyone think? Too much time/not enough?

I sped nearlly five/six times that lol just due to the fact i double check everything make sure ive got all the requests, announcements, names and everything sorted but if its a wedding or the client has requested a pre-booking meeting etc it can run into a possible couple of days work.

I spend an average of just under an hour before the night itself preparing for wedding discos.

This breaks down as about 15 minutes on paperwork and 30-45 minutes checking their advance requests, downloading any songs I don't have and making up a playlist.

Thanks Dave, I can now tell my wife that an hour and a half is not too much time:) Although spending more than that on this forum!

It depends on the function but I have had some where I have put in over 10 hours in making sure I hopefully cover every eventuality.

If the client wants a visit, this obviously adds an hour or two to the preparation time, but only two or three of my clients want this each year...despite me mentioning customer meetings (& the fact that they are free) in several places on my website.

preparation time for my theme discos runs into quite a few hours - at least 1-2 hours a night for a week

Depends on gig unfortunatly I have 2 complicated gigs coming up this month 1 of which has already had 6 hours plus prep. And the other is onto the 3 hour plus prep. Normally though about an hour covers the majority.

It really depends on the clients I find. I've had weddings that require less than 30mins preparation (paperwork and check first/last) dance and on the other hand I've had events that can require days (maybe even weeks) of prep.

I think this question is abit of an open book, It takes how ever long it takes.

Some no time at all....others longer depends on how many requests they have asked for and if I need to find any. Apart from that dont need to spend any time on it. I dont pre plan what Im going to play just turn up and see what works.
