I have just hired a lockup the other day to store excess equipment as the elastic sides on my garage have stopped stretching.

I was sitting last night and thought 'I think I will load the car up now to get an early start in transferring stuff over'. However I had a few :beer1: :beer1: and could not be bothered.

LUCKY - I woke up this morning and found some 'fatherless person' had broken into my car

Sat Nav, chargers, few cd's and a couple of quid gone and quite a bit of damage to the car - not to mention a new drivers side door glass.

However it does not bear to think of what could have gone missing :(

Total cost to repair so far has been £168 - £75 excess on the windscreen and £93 for new door trim, still needs a paint touch up but due to excess on insurance not worth claiming.

The good thing is that I have just had a call from the police who visited the suspect and found him with the sat nav in hand so hopefully something may get done, but very much doubt it.

I know of this person and he would have done it for his heroin hit, without doubt. :Censored:

I wonder if he'll even get a worthwhile conviction - a policeman once told me the majority of crime is committed by people known to them and are repeat offenders. Drug addiction seems to be a motivating force.

Funnily enough, I don't do gigs for people in my town, but, for some unusual reason, I did do a gig for a local last saturday. Probably just coincedence but ..........................

Just to clarify - "already known to the police"

Well, just had CSI round to confirm the recovered goods are mine - which they were.

Totalled up what the goods are worth, damage to car etc and has came to £548 plus it needs the paintwork tidying up.

They have arrested someone who is in custody. He was released from prison TWO DAYS ago

I gave statement etc and queried about recovering losses. The reply was 'No problem, he has admitted everything and has been on a rampage. We will advise you on how to put in a claim, but the payment will be around 50p a week'

What the :Censored: is this country coming to ?? £548 of cost to myself for basically a few shots of heroin

Gone soft on crime and criminals--and a bunch of totally mad Judges.

I heard on the TV a lady of the night was acquitted because the "Judge"
agreed it was better for her to break the law by being a prostitute than having to go out on those nasty mean streets when its raining.

Not safe you see--but its safe off the streets apparently--yeah right.

Any more of this ill start crying:bang: :bang: :bang:

Next time im driving home late from a gig through a dodgy looking area ill break the speed limit and drive through Red Lights in case anyone tries to attack me--naturally I wont expect to get prosecuted by the Police eh;)

I know exactly how you feel. My car got broke into about a year ago and it was really shocking. Not the fact that it had happened, just the fact it had happened outside of my front door!

Then there's the cost of repair and replacements for the goods stolen and the time going through insurance paper work and time without a car while its being repaired. It's just so much hassle for so little gain for them.

And the police. Don't get me started on them:mad:

I guess (most of us) are lucky enough to not fully comprehend how these people get into this mess of drug addiction - I'm sure it must be very hard to get off - society continues to foot the bill

Just to bring this back to life to vent my anger. The guy who broke into my car was eventually arrested, stood trial and jailed for 6 weeks. Turned out he was released from prison 4 days earlier.

Anyway, after being released from this sentance he was rearrested 5 days after for breaking into a house 2 streets down from me. stood trial got a couple of months prison rereleased and guess what he done 2 weeks later - yep, broke into a car. No conviction as no proof.

Sent to prison later for an unrelated offence and was released 10 days ago. Guess what happened last night - my neighbours car was broken into by the same guy

Now surely something should be done. I received 'a warning' as both myself and my neighbour told the police to 'not bother reporting as we will sort it out ourselves'. To our amazement the police said beforehand that he has never heard of anything like this happening in our town. For :Censored: sake the town had a report in the Sunday People a year ago about kids terrorising.

I have a lot of respect for the police (my dad was in the force) but comments like that do nothing to help at all.

I think the Charlie B approach is needed Chris.
As there is a common offender and known I bet it wont be long before he upsets the wrong person and he will be on the missing list.

I'm really sorry to hear this happened. I have had attempts to get into my van, they can't actually get into the load area but they have broken the drivers door window and tried to force the side door in the past costing me for glass and damaged paint etc. claiming on the insurance is often not viable so you end up spending a couple of hundred quid out of your pocket sorting it out...lucky one of my local DJ mates is a sprayer by trade and has a paint shop not too far away. Thing is that something like a £100 sat nav, stereo or camera ends up being sold for maybe £10 or less so they can buy drugs.

Last time it happened I had 3 rather rough looking blokes knock my door returning my Tom Tom and saying that they heard what happened and not to worry because they knew who it was and they had sorted hinm out. After talking to them it turned out that one of these blokes had his house broken into and was fed up with the police so him and some mates now keep their eye on what's happening locally.

Personally I don't approve but it does say something about what things are coming to when it would appear the only way to get your property back and stop it happening is that way.

Back in October my dads car got stolen keys were on the hall table and they smashed a window, walked through the room with a dog in! And took the keys.

The police were very helpful with the CSI coming round and taking statements but no car ever recovered :( but as I say very helpful and came round every other evening for the next 2weeks to check if we were ok and if we had heard anything.

make your home as inviting as possible Chris and have a bit of 2X4 lying around from some joinery work ;)

In seriouslness though, its an absolute :Censored: take with the police these days. My parents had serious problems with the neighbours, and the police were completely useless.

Yeah I wouldn't hold any hope of getting paid.

I returned from a gig last year to catch two :Censored: by the side of my girlfriends car with their screwdriver in the cars fuel tank knicking the petrol.

Called the Police who arrived within 5 minutes and caught the lads in a car round the corner to us stinking of petrol, we gave a positive ID and we thought that was that. However in questioning the lads said "It wasn't us" and "we are mecanics and that is why we smell fo petrol" so they got released without so much as a caution. (Just to re-iterate they were 20 miles from their home address at 1.30AM, covered in petrol, caught red handed, positively ID by Two people yet as they said they didn't do it that was good enough for the police!).

A few weeks pass then a letter drops in the door, the lads have been re-arrested as some old lady in the next village had just realised that some wheels had been stolen and apparently they were in the back of the car that these lads where in when first arrested! the CID came around again and amoungst the statement taking mentioned these lads are well known to them.

Anyway without going off topic too far and highlighting the amount of wasted time and money by the Police the quote to replace the fuel tank was the best part of £600, when finally convicted the lads claimed financial difficulties and monthly repayment of £1 but thats not the best of it, the court only approved £260 of compensation, two payments were made and now nothing for the past couple of months!

I just can't get my head around how you can walk upto somebodies car, do £600 worth of damage which they have to pay out immediately to get the car back on the road to continue with their law-abiding lives and get away with paying nothing back (or as the courts decided a third of it) if they can be bothered.
