Longest gig?

Ive done a few 6 hours gigs before, but tonights is 7 hours long. Working from 6pm to 1am, add the hour to setup and 45 mins to take down the rig and its almost a 9 hour job.

I wont even get a break as the buffet is being opened at 7.30 and just left for people to eat when they wish.

Whats the longest gig you lot have done?

2pm to 2:30pm then 3pm to 1am so 10 hours straight if you don't count the break.

2:00 outside the venue playing specific tunes for the arrival of the guests, bride and then groom.

Shush for half an hour during the ceremony.

Then it was drinks & giant games on the lawn then indoors for the main meal (background level tunes) then the full-on disco later.


Admittedly from 3pm to 8pm was from a predetermined playlist - an hour of ska, an hour of trojan reggae, an hour of northern soul and so on.


A nice little earner that day :)

We were doing a fund-raiser for a hospice and raised £1200 that day. It involved silly competitions, charging for requests and charging to stop playing really awful tracks. (we got £5 just to stop In The Mood ..... by the Hen House 5, or chickens as they are better known)

Also have done a number of 7-8 hour stinks on the Marathon route.

But, of course, there are 2 of us. :D

And the organisers kept us supplied with food and drinks. :approve:

Well I got a wedding coming up at the end of the month where they want me to arrive from 11am on the Saturday morning (midday start) and finish at 12 midnight. Admittedly the afternoon is going to be mostly background music but they do want to start around 6pm for the evening disco. I'm not looking forward to this as it is going to be a long testing day but it is a profitable day too.

I had another wedding last year in a rugby club which was a nightmare as they wanted my services from 2pm until midnight. They requested disco for the kids and first lot of guests in the afternoon and I barely had a rest before the evening disco started. This was also one of the worst discos I have done as needless to say their idea didn't work. Not many guests turned up in the night and I found it difficult to read the crowd having played a lot of the music already during the day I found myself short of ideas.

I don't like the all day weddings and don't do many of them but sometimes I just got to do them as the business is my only income at present.

got a 17hr one comming up one sunday in august

start at 9am drive 40miles to country castle set up 4 speaker pa and play ceremoney music

pull down and drive 40miles back to reception venue, set up projector and 2 pa speakers and media centre.

home reload with kit for evening disco, out set up evening disco

by the time i get packed up and home it will be about 2am

When I was a lad, it wasn't uncommon to start a gig at 7pm, and finish around 6am. ;) Those were the days.

maybe its just the Scottish being tight, but in 20 years of doing this, ive never been asked to provide background music during the day at weddings.

my longest day ever involved a kids party 11 - 1pm, another from 3 to 5 then a wedding from 7 to 1am.

Nah mate, private gigs, in big houses, barns, sheds or what have you. They often went on so long cos the git with the money was still partying, and hadn't paid you. :( :( :( :(

August bank holiday 1996....

I set-up at Mid-day at a hotel on the Saturday for a Wedding then went onto the customer's home to set-up a big system in a marquee in the back garden (2 set-ups for one customer) then back to the hotel for 3pm to do the background and ceremony music till 7pm. Started the night time disco at 7.30 and played till 12 mid-night. Shut down the disco at the hotel and left my roadie to pack up.

Drove 5 miles to the house party and DJ'd with one other DJ till 8pm on the Sunday evening, different crowd (the fella getting married was a dance music promoter so the house party was for all of the B&G's clubby ibiza type friends, very hedonistic lot ;) ).... so longest for me is 32 hours straight! :)

Came back Monday lunchtime to pack away after a good sleep!... :)

8 hours but this was during race week so had the day job starting about nine til 6.30 then going to the club and playing 7-3. that was three nights in a row mind!

The longest gig I've done is from 6pm to 2am - 8 hours in total.

I can remember two I've had.

The first was a certain celebrity NYE party just gone. Set up at 1pm, then from 7pm went through until 5.30am.

And the other was a military summer ball started set up at 6pm and went through until 6am, Man hose military boys and girls know how to party.

I've had a 12 noon til 3 am new years eve, thats a long one! I got paid £200 and as much beer as I could drink... i managed most of a case of Becks! That was a few years ago mind you, and I was Dj'ing with the house equipment in my friends pub, and I was sleeping over... Had a top night! I don't DJ and drink these days I must add ;-)

7 hours for a christening! started at 4.30 ended at 11.30 as was the worst gig of our DJing lives so far.
Kids where throwing food around, guests where fighting. Bar in the venue closed as everyone was too drunk. People trying to steal the mic to do karaoke and a constant request for Sean Kingston...your way to beautiful girl...

Was a horrendous day and night and kinda early on, but we learnt a lot =]

longest live dj gig was 8 hours a few years back - it was for crew from the QE2 as well as a few of the passengers - i tell ya it was a weird night lol

just in febuary however i did a 24 hour radio show to raise money for the National Autistic Society, started at 7pm on the friday night, however was up since 8am Friday morning - not the best idea lol
