Help ,I got hummmmmmmm

Ii have just set up for tonight's gig , I am using a laptop and a denon 4500

problem:

when the usb cable is connected from the denon to the laptop, I am getting a loud hum from the speakers , this disseapears when the laptop is on battery only , the battery will not last all evening , is this an earth problem.
I`ve checked the rest ,an the problem is only when the denon is plugged into the laptop , I tried a different cable USB,but same problem

A ground loop isolator is required, as others have pointed out.

You can get them from craplins for a few quid each...

I assume you go straight from your DJ mixer into your amp/speakers? What connections do you use? You can put one in between the DJ mixer and amp?

Alternatively, put one ground loop isolator onto each channel being fed into your DJ mixer i.e. on on the left hand player's output and one of the right hand player's output.

Thanks for the replys.

the problem is with the laptop power supply , I fitted a GLI but it made no difference :( , the problem is with interference (red noise) in the laptop , the USB cable is picking up this noise ,hence running the laptop on battery cures the problem , there are some new laptop power supplys that address this problem , I`ll order one and go back to CD`s for tonight ( this should be interesting :D :D )
