To power a pair of Class D CD12's (300w RMS)

What should I be looking for?

Well I'm sure some wag will say that active cabs wouldn't. And then some pedant will say that since there's at least one amp inside the cabs, the original view is still correct.


Anyhow: Any from the list I give every time this is asked.

T AMP 1400
C Mark 2450
Behringer 2500 ( think the 2000 is the new equivalent, but not sure)
KAM 1500

Anything reliable, giving 500 or so watts at 8ohms per channel.

Gets very hot when pushed and the older ones used to burn out the PCB tracks that served the output transistors... not sure if this fault has been addressed?

All the others Peter recommended are good reliable and affordable amps in my experience :)

No personal experience of this exact model, but I have an equivalent one formerly owned by a nice man in Lincolnshire which I haven't thrashed yet, but which performs fine under normal duties.

OK, the serious bit. As a fully paid up sceptic, I would never trust any
1U amp of that power. That's just my age.
As someone who has seen the internal parts of these in the flesh, and knows how Class D operate, I foresee no problems with a 1U size model. There you are, even I don't know!!! :confused: :confused:
Personally, I'd always go for a 2U model, but I have only prejudice to go on.

The amps are 2ohm stable, and there are stories of the soak testing them for hours with a selection of cabs hung off them, resulting in a really silly load being applied to them. Apparently, the only casualty of this test was Gary's Multimeter cable, when he put it in circuit to measure the current draw!! :eek: :eek: :eek: :D :D :D

I have a couple of old Gemini amps, one of which can exhibit cooling problems, and I keep considering fitting some Class D internals to breathe new life into them.

I would suggest that anyone contemplating one of these should either pick up the phone, or programme Mansfield into the Sat Nav.

Yeah, only double the weight of one Class D, so exactly the same weight ( and possibly price) as two Class D of equivalent power. :p :D :D :D :D
