Transport advice required!

Hello,

I currently have a trailer and impreza estate. It is not very economical although i save money on not paying tax etc on the trailer.
between 15-20 mpg which is not good!

As im gettin more gigs in further locations i can see things getting more expensive :) all my gear fits in the car so i do not have much kit which has got me thinking that i could sell the trailer and get an old diesel estate instead.

1: Firstly can i fit bulkholds to estates as this would be my first concern cos if i crashed i would not live very long :eek:

2: secondly can anyone reccomend a decent estate or van for under £700. Im not too bothered about looks (I was looking at a Kangoo car :o ) or age as long as its done under 100k and is reliable. More importantly can fit my gear in. the main thing is the big flightcase so i need the length.

50+ mpg a must!

3: thirdly - whats the security risk and the underwriting on dj guard with a windowed car (assuming its locked). I will black out the windows and have the bulkold (if possible).

van is definitely an option but they are expensive - people carriers too.
Any help much appreciated. :)

Bulkhead? Fit a dog guard. Security/insurance with a windowed vehicle is always a problem. I have a Transit Jan has a small car. Works for us.

And vehicle models and pricing, as well as folks' experiences, change frequently too.

It's only 2 months since I ditched the van and bought a Previa aircraft-hangar-on-wheels and I can now see all the pros and cons of each.

will that stop heavy speakers and big flight cases at a combined speed of 100 mpg in a motorway crash though :confused:
I need something thats very strong. My dog guard in my subaru is OK but would not stop anything heavy.

As always my answer--Monster sized roof box--I have stopped using mine until the Summer until some bigger gigs are coming up as you do lose a bit of MPG.

Thats the nice bit--you can easily remove it if you dont need it for a few weeks.;)

I have my van as my own mode of transport and it doesnt really bother me its not a "car". Nobody can see into the back, no trailer to worth about and the tax increase isnt that much.

I use this and it good on juice like a car to drive and you can fit a bulkhead

and the older ones are cheap as chips.

200 kg of gear in a collision at 30 mph will probably seriously hurt you if not kill you. im not risking that. :)
Mobiles on the dash board have been known to kill the odd person in impact crashes.

Thanks for that link i ended up buying it :D

He had three calls for it on the test drive. Good van i cant complain for £475 :eek:
It apparently does 500 miles on a £56 tank which has answered my problems.

If only the proclaimers new that they would not have had to walk so far!
