Ok...

Just had one of the strangest requests EVER....

Had a guy call me asking me to do a Russian dance party... they wanted russian music only!

Unfortuantely as I'm not confident in international music ( and couldn't really understand him ) I had to explain politely it's not something we cater for.....

Just thought I'd share! :)

Anyone else had random party requests like this??

Similar thing I've got one later in the year where the Bride is Finnish and the Groom is from Italy so that one will be interesting!

Yes. I have done French, German, Spanish, Cuban, Nigerian, Jewish, Indian and Trinidad & Tobago, Canadian and Irish Weddings. Use it a great opportunity to submerge yourself in the music from a different culture. I am soon to do a Chinese and a Polish wedding. Ask the client for a list of songs that they definitely want playing and go and buy the CDs. I usually spend £50 - £100 per on music for an international event. I consider it an investment. You have to do a wee bit of pre-listening to the tracks to categorise them (much as you would with any new-release CDs) so that you can cut to the Indie, Dance, Rock etc as required. You can find the latest international chart here: http://top40-charts.com/chart.php?cid=45 (It is nice to surprise the client by playing latest hits too).
I emailed Mastermix a few months ago asking them to consider compiling French and German music CDs. I gave them a list of songs that I know have worked.
All the best
