Animal Magnet - Welcome To The Monkey House.

You can find this on Mastermix Classic Cuts Issue 32 - Rare/Collectables. I think it is priced at £10.

sorry to rain on your parade Ags but there's no way you could describe Welcome to the Monkey House as Ska- I think the tune he is looking for is Monkey Man by Toots and the Maytals :teeth:

Don't know then but don't worry about raining on my parade :teeth:

When he said "Monkey House" i immediatley thought he meant "Welcome To The Monkey House" by "Animal Magnet"

So i have probably got it wrong, which is more than likely so i think we need some more info!

Hmmm-I remember playing Toots and the Maytals in the 60s and 70s--
wasnt that Reggae Music--just to be technical :teeth:

More commercial and mainstream than Ska?

Used to Mobile DJ a massive horrendous Youth Club in County Kilburn where a lot of this stuff was being played--even remember regularly playing the original Red Red Wine by Tony Tribe-- much faster than UB40----and the infamous Max Romeo :teeth:

From my fading memory I thought real Original 60s Ska was stuff like Prince Buster ? Back to your roots and all that.

Nice to remember all this stuff! I think Soundtracker is dead right though on the track-

Well, just as a consolation, Animal Magnet is a useful track to have :)

My last post disappeared.

There are also versions by the Specials & Reel Big Fish depending on what era of ska you want.

Just had a listen and it does sound a bit fast for reggae...although the two genres were so close during the late 60s and early 70s...

Misconception from that era. All of the genres I mentioned got called reggae over here or occasionally Blue Beat which, (like Motown) was actually a record label.

It is where you live in the West Midlands, but I think you'll find most of the rest of the country are oblivious to it- bit like Balaam & the Angel (ask yer Dad!) only a regional hit. I bought my copy on a 12 inch in Cannock about 20 years ago.

As for the Genre debate on Reggae, Ska, Calypso, Lovers Rock, Rude Boy, or whatever- I think in the early seventies most of it got called "skinhead" music- but as with most genre debates it is ultimately futile, I'm off to dust down my crombie!!! :teeth:

Who were most definately not regional, I saw them 23 times in one year from Nottingham via London to Bristol. I also got to know Jim their guitarist & have an autographed copy of their first album.

P.S. how do you pronounce Balaam?

Anyone remember seeing them on the Tube?

One of theirs that's bound to be more up your street Alan, is Take me home country roads (also on iTunes)

When did download sites ever bother with accurate genre tags anyway?

L-R Jim Morris, Mark Morris & Des Morris. I've still got a t shirt somewhere from that tour. that was before they added second guitarist Ian McKean (formerly of Twenty Flight Rockers now there was a band!)

It is definately NOT ska or for that matter Reggae, or any of the other variations, its pure 80's pop. Helps if you get the question right! LOL
