Denon HD2500 being bad again.

Hi all

All those HD2500 users. It is now starting to get on my nerves and wondering if its my unit or all of them.

If its left cued up for a long while - say 45 minutes or so like last night whilst Kev was singing - once you play the track it starts and then 10 seconds in just stops, so I went to HD deck two and played the other cued track, which played for about ten seconds then guess what stopped.

Went to CD - Really annoyed me.

Went back to it later in the night and when stuff was cued up it was fine then on two occassions about 30 seconds before a track was about to end the cued deck went into create playlist mode for no reason!!! Back to CD that was cued.

Then to top it all when I got it out of playlist mode the keyboard went mental and wouldn't scroll and the e key just produced a string of numbers. It came back eventually but after having turned it off a couple of times.

I am really not getting on with digital and starting to consider ditching the whole idea as its nothing but trouble.

Is it just me or has anyone else had any of the problems decribed above?

Is it external or the internal you have the issues on?

Sorry to hear that mate.
I haven't had any problems with mine and I know that's not much help. All you can do really is search the Denon HD2500 threads on here or the official Denon forums for some help. Other than that, maybe wipe the thing totally and start from scratch. If you have everything backed up on a seperate HD then it shouldn't take long creating a new database. Also, make sure the latest software is on there etc.

Lastly, do you just use the Denon HD2500 internal HD or are you using a powered USB Hub with External HD's?

Just for the record (and this may be a waste of time because you may well have a dodgy unit?)..

I have a Belkin powered USB Hub with 2 x External HD's connected to it aswell as an ailluminated keyboard. My 2 x External HD's are Seagate 360GB.

The only problem I encounter (and it's a petty little thing) is that sometimes when I power up the Denon, the little KB sign for the keyboard doesn't show. It's easily sorted as I unplug it and then plug it in and it registers.

I hope you get it sorted...and quickly. I am no expert on it at all but keep asking questions and I'll try to help.

Didn't someone on here mention a while back that some of the External HD's have an automatic shutdown mode on them or something?
If that's the case....you should be able to disable that in the properties on the external HD itself yeah?

Yep think you just nailed it. It's a Seagate External powered drive, so it's probably gone to sleep. I assume the HD stores 10 seconds for antishock, which is why it starts up. Lesson there. Run the tracks before going back to the unit.

Anyone any ideas on the other things? May be a dicky keyboard thinking about it. Just annoyed me last night, but none of the guests noticed bar the initial two tracks after the vocal set.

I'd recommend you use a good quality powered hub, my HD2500 gave me a load of problems when I was using a cheap ebay hub.

Actually wondering if the hub was disturbed at all. One woman banged into the box twice in a row quite hard not long before problems started (not really her fault she had been on the Champers and the dance floor had quite a sloping edge to it - they weren't your usual dangly heads)

Also come to think of it I did one thing different last night.

Its a four port hub, two either side, and I always plug the HD into the opposite side to the keyboard. Last night they were side by side. Doubt that would make any difference.

I am going to keep using it and try and work out why it does what it does. It only seems to play up when we have vocal jobs and I have a tonne of gear all linked up and it gets left doing nothing for large periods of time. Last nights playlist issue and keyboard problem was the first time that had happened, however.

Although it did have a strange incident a few weeks ago when I left the touch pad in search mode rather than scratch. It kind of starting just juddering when cued, but I think that was the bass making the twist pad jump forward a minute amount setting it into search.

Cheers steve, that could well have been it as the keyboard slides onto a shelf under the mixer and I am clumsy fat hands at the best of times.

I've previously used a Maxtor utility to reconfigure the drive 'sleep' mode (it's a power-saving feature :bang: ) from 15 minutes to "never". It came on the CD-ROM with the drive. Had to dig out an old windoze machine to run it on but it only took a couple of mins.

Maybe there's something similar for your drive?

Google has plenty of folks asking similar questions.

I bought a programme BPM and a My Book Harddrive.I link that to my Laptop.I control the sound with my Mixer.....

The only hard bit was loading all the songs onto the hard drive and tagging them all.I get a Fab sound....it all seems a bit complicated with this Denon effort!!

Well the first problem, is that all the Denons I've used have been deaf!!!! No matter how much I shout at them, or press enter, they sit there smirking. :bang: Fortunately, Steve has found a button which allows them to hear again, ( sort of turns them into a Cortex. :D :D )

Martin, without going into all the details of the conversation we've had a thousand times about headphones socket/soundcard et al, I'm assuming you use the laptop as the playout, ie navigate with the mouse?

Right, Jobs one, two and three. Rip everything at 320, tag it and check it. Check it, and check it again. Media Monkey is my weapon of choice, others are available. Then, and only then, look round for a player, laptop or HDC. When you've done the first three, ask again.

I wouldnt do that, the advantages are huge.

Its got to be something basic as so many people on here operate on a weekly basis without problem.

Both Denon and Cortex.

It can only be---

Unit
Hard drive
Keyboard
Hub

Probably you have duplicates of all so just do a calm and collected backtest in a non pressure situation--getting a problem whilst performing live is very stressful and can lead you to jump to wrong conclusions ( as I know) :eek:

I operate in a similar way at Weddings and Wild West nights-set up the HD and Cortex but leave them for say at least 2 hours while doing the Barn Dancing/Line Dancing with Mini Discs before starting to use digital.

I dont use a Hub as one HD contains all my music and in the extremely unlikely event of breakdown my Mini Disc is backup whilst I get the backup sorted out.

Arent we supposed to leave the spare HD at home to comply with Pro dub :eek:

Presumably the problem is if you have TWO working HDs to start the gig you are in breach of the rules.

Make sure one is dead before the Pro dub inspector arrives.;)

I cant see the point of relying on a second hand Laptop from ebay when you could get a secondhand Cortex for the same money, providing its from a trusted source, maybe on here:D

or push the boat out and get a Denon secondhand.

I know which I would trust.
