I've just brought this beauty from eBay.

Dad said to give it a whirl - otherwise I'll just buy one new.

Any thoughts on what the problem could be?

Output LEDS. The pretty flashing lights. Shows what levels you're running at. Not sure they show on the booth output. :confused:

Right, now we're getting somewhere. Painstaking fault finding will be necessary. Turn every control down to minimum, and turn them up one by one to see if you can pinpoint it. If it's across 'em all, then wiring/component fault as alluded to earlier by Paul seems likely.

Not necessarily. Probably, but not for certain. Like I said, diligent fault finding is needed.

Contact Denon and find someone to service it. You got it for a great price and it might not be a big problem to fix.

Assuming of course that a fault actually exists, and isn't a settings issue, ie two channels selected simultaneously or something.

From the picture on EBAY it looks shagged TBH, if the buzz is the only fault you'll be lucky. You have to rely on this so I would definitely have it looked at by a Denon service agent. :)

Charlie, you did notice that not a single fader has the plastic knob attached didnt you.....

Not a biggie, and easily replaceable, but does make me wonder ho well looked after the unit has really been.

I didn't look too closely initially ( on a cursory glance, I missed it totally. :o :o :o :o ), but since it's advertised " Spares
or repair" i'd say there's no chance of reversing out of the deal.

Fiddled with it for ages...and can't get a dicky bird - apart from hearing it faintly.

Charlie, each fader can be assigned to any of eight channel inputs. Or even all faders can be set to the same one. There's a sensitivity switch on the back as well. Have you tried the booth outputs? ( Expects answer" no, cos I've not got a correct cable" ) Also there's a gain control on each channel. l

It is a Matrix mixer which means any line can be assigned to any channel by switching the line switches on the front.

But sadly the Excalibur 24Hr helpline, £1.50 a minute, mobiles may be dearer, was unable to solve the problem. :( :( :( :( I feel a qualified repairer may be needed. ;) :( :(

Tell you what charlie, if the mixer is a duffer, my bet is the faders and the crossfaders still work ok and guess what they are removable and floggable. i'd even take a couple off you for a tenner + postage untested because you can't easily buy them in stores. Only the Rotory fader is available like that.

From our conversation, he's got inputs to the channels, cos we're getting leds running with a CD playing. Sound's just not getting to the output, as far as we can tell. Mic channel not getting to output either, apparently. It could be FUBAR, BER, or it could be a really simple and cheap fault.

On Saturday, I took my rig for one of my DJs to use for a teenage party, but he used his Numark mixer and what a difference in sound! I couldn't believe how much worse it sounded with the Numark and not my Pioneer.
