Hi all,

Just read the thread on the Acme LED Moonflower/Goboflower jobby, and have a question for you.

Why do companies bother creating new fixtures, but leave out the DMX?!??!?!?!? Surely it doesn't cost that much to wang in some DMX IN/OUT terminals and the other relevant programming/components? I would imagine they put a lot of work in to the new products (slightly debatable as they do turn out some utter tat occasionally!) but leave out DMX? :confused:

Any ideas why?

Price. ;) If you're lucky, there'll be a cloned fixture with DMX. The Tango had a DMX clone if I remember right.

Okay so price...

Serious question; what additional costs are there for the manufacturer?

The cost of getting someone to program the boards to run via DMX and the keeping the cost of the light down at the same time. Its not as simple as putting in a board and hooking it up to some DMX system.

I see... Surely they won't have much programming to do though... That LED gobo flower, for example is nearly identical to the Magic Gobos. So surely they could just use that DMX board?

Yeah agreed but surely they are considerably reducing their market by not including DMX with these new LED fixtures? (and older ones for that matter).

Hey there's a LOT of jocks out there who can't be bothered with DMX and just opt out for the plug n play mode. So there will be a strong demand with none DMX lighting :p :D ;)

Im not keen on non dmx lights myself because id sooner have a lightshow that i can sync the lights it looks much better i think. Some djs arent bothered about that. So of course the manufacturers appeal to peoples wants.

I wanted a couple of decent Martin moonflowers to go with the rest of the show. But the mania range none of them are DMX and theyre only 100w. So the only option which would give me what i want would be Martin Ego 4's
which ive been trying to find someone with some because they dont sell them anymore.
