Hi All,

My local leisure centre and I came up with a mutual decision on booking me for new years eve this year, it was arranged around 2 months ago. The booking agreement was sent out as where the instructions to pay either the deposit or full balance whichever was more convenient for them.

The manager at the leisure centre said he had forwarded the form and details to his head office and had, had a go ahead from them.

Having asked twice now when I would receive payment for this I have been told to "stop panicking, the booking is confirmed". But I've had enough of waiting now, I realise new years is a long way off however I'm also trying to run a business, and in my eyes, without the booking agreement and deposit then the booking isn't confirmed.

So I have stated this in an email -

I appreciate you state New Years Eve is all booked and confirmed, but I do really need to receive the booking form and deposit soon. As a business I need both in order for it to be a confirmed booking my end.

Normally its required within 7 days however you have been very helpful to me so I have tried not to pester.

Please could you ensure the document and payment is received within the next 2 weeks as it would be most appreciated.

Have I done the right the thing??

No booking is a booking until the moment a deposit is made...simple as that.

Its quite easy to deal with simply explain to them that you are holding it provisionally for them, but if another enquiry comes in before they pay the deposit you will have to accept the other booking.

OR what we do--if another DEFFO comes in get hold of the Leisure Centre and threaten to pull the booking in 24 hours unless money received.

Heads you win--tails you win

Yee ha!

well said tony i think you have hit the nail on the head.

better to have the booking than bend the client out of shape and loose the booking.

BigMix...

I think you've done the right thing.

Personally I agree that a booking is NOT confirmed until the booking form and deposit have been paid. My terms state that BOTH need to be completed to be secure.

One option you could do.... if within 2 weeks you have not received anything, I would probably pay them a visit to 'discuss the booking'... explain the date has now been released to the general public and then get them to write a cheque, there and then...to re-secure the date.

Hope that helps :)

for me, they have a provisional booking which means either party is not yet commited, so until you receive the deposit, you are available for nye to other potential clients.
